Songbird – Behind the Scenes

Fly far, Songbird …

But make sure to come back and don’t crash-land on the other side of the valley like our drone did when we filmed this music video!

Watch the Making-Of for “Songbird” – all hiccups included!

Each of the larger video productions we have done recently have taken us 3 days to film, and this video was no exception. Today we’re breaking down the filming process and show you how the finished clip came about.

We also uploaded some behind-the-scenes photos from the shoot in the MLT Club a while ago which you can find here and of course, if you want to watch the finished music video again, click here.

The whole video was a 4-person effort, as most of our endeavours are, so big thanks go to Michaela and Dad for the great teamwork as always!

Stay groovy,
Mona & Lisa

  1. I finally saw this video today. Thanks to Johnnypee who mentioned it to me. I’m afraid the careful, organized way that I’m exploring the content in the Club (which method doesn’t exist; I’ve been doing my usual fly by the seat of my pants method) hadn’t gotten me here before.

One of the original reasons I joined the Club was to learn more about how you are navigating the music business, especially without a record company to help by taking advantage of you.

My main hobby is learning, plus I have a background in business and to a lesser extent, music, so these BTS videos are great. I’ve learned quite a bit, thank you. I still feel confident in saying I know zero about any visual art form, including videos, so that’s especially interesting.

One of the things I’ve learned about from watching your vids is your drone. Not something you’d want to lose. .

Glad it all worked out in the end, but not surprised. 4 very capable people in the hunt. Thanks for posting this!

  2. These BTS videos are always interesting. Glad you found the drone. Turned out to be a beautiful video and Songbird is a wonderful song.

  3. Great song and great beautiful video to see how you did it, and such a relief that you have found the drone, tres beau paysage, Merci

  4. “Behind-The-Scenes” always presents the little, or big, things that can go wrong with a shoot. It is so impressive that you 4 can get shots that it would take a filming crew with twice the people to do. My hat is off to you all. BTW: I love the BTS films.

  5. Great adventure you all had. Thank you for sharing how you make things seem so easy and sweet, while it really takes a lot more of your individuality from all of you using skills outside of the anticipated plans you had.

  6. Operation “Drone rescue” was epic…LOL ^_^
But wait – so it it didn’t crash, but just gently landed there, when you lost the connection ? :O

  7. YAAAAY…You found the drone! I luv these behind the scenes videos. You and your family could teach a course on how to create music videos because they are always so great. Such a wonderful talent you all have!! Well I should say many talents. Thank you for sharing.

  8. That was fun! Great to see Michaela too! And how about a slightly early Happy Birthday to Papa Rudi as well! Glad you found that drone! Lovely countryside as usual!

  9. Love these Behind the Scenes videos!! It’s so interesting to see the whole process evolve.A HUGE Shoutout to Michaela for all her hard work capturing all the goings on.Love the song, Love the video,Love you Ladies! With each new release,I find myself getting more excited about the new album.Cannot wait for the day I can put my pre order in.Thanks again for all you continue to do and share with all of us.

    Love and Hugs to all

    Tom

  10. Well, if the Rooftop concert was cold, the Mountaintop performance had to be colder!
As usual, it was so funny. It went from a behind the scenes videos, to one of those “in pursuit” TV shows. Loved the accent music and the “not my job” dog. All’s well that ends well.
I also love the shot of Lisa with the balloon from far behind (0:30) it’s such a beautiful shot and it’s so perfect how the edit is on Lisa adjusting her beret. That brings us in and tells the story beautifully.
    ???? K views already for Questionable! ????????????

  11. It seems like we could predict cold and/or rainy weather by just watching when you guys were going to shoot videos, but somehow you never look cold in the videos. You certainly pass the test of “when the going gets tough, the tough get going”!

Some pretty amazing footage has come from that Papa Rudi’s drone. Has he lost it before? Losing it in the Alps might have been trouble.

I really enjoy these “making of” videos, there is always something new to learn or see. And my ear is slowly beginning to tune in to the German phrases that pop up here and there, “langsamer, du hast in Eile”, or something close to that. (I had to use google translate for that one.)

  12. Thank you for posting these “making of” videos. I always find them intriguing as well as very entertaining. Lots of drama in this one!

By the way, I hadn’t noticed a change in Mona’s accent until you highlighted her going “full Schwarzenegger”. I laughed because I hadn’t thought of the obvious Austrian connection between Mona, Lisa and “Arnie”. For some reason I don’t normally think of “the Terminator” when watching an MLT video.

  13. Woohoo. Questionable just surpassed 100K views on youtube, on it’s way to millions! ????????????????

  14. These behind the scenes videos are so cool! Thank you so much for showing these to us. It makes us feel closer to your family. It must have been such a relief to find your drone so the footage of that day wasn’t lost. Beautiful scenery!

  15. It’s always a lot of fun seeing just how much you guys have to put into a song or video, so we can fall in love with it! Your efforts are never ever in vain as you know just by the following you have on social media platforms. But the real love is in the MLT Club!!! We love everything you do!!! Thanks so much….

  16. Mona: “I really wanted to film this outside”.
Lisa: “I have no idea why we have to film outside”.

Lisa, as you know, sometimes sacrifices have to be made for your art!

  17. It is amazing to me and all of us how much you all put into your video’s and craft! So enjoyable and it shows how much you love what you do and to make sure you do it correct and right. I love Songbird and this takes it so much deeper for me to see how much you went to make this song and the scenery absolutely gorgeous. Like I have said in the past, seeing things like this feels like family to me when you go on vacation or holiday and when you come home you share your trip. Which is why I am so glad I am a club member and makes my day knowing I am a club member. Thank you so much, the area in which this was filmed is beautiful and to have you both talk to us is so cool to me. From living in the USA It is so refreshing to me to hear you talk is great, if you would hear my lingo from living here in Pittsburgh would make you laugh with some words we use here ….one word we use is Red Up….which translates to cleaning up an area….LOL…but I am going to show Maddie this video now and today is her 9th Birthday and we have a huge party planned for her tonight.
Hugs and love from Bill and Maddie Isenberg Huge Fans from Pittsburgh PA USA

  18. What a great experience, heart stopping when the drone lost itself, well done all of you for searching. Special well done to Mona for finding it.
I also can’t believe that just the four of you create such professional videos.
However I have a question. When you are videoing especially outside, do you sing live or do you mime to a pre recorded track? It must be difficult to sing perfectly in the cold.

  19. Songbird is a good song. I listen to it every day. But there was such an adventure behind the scenes. And it’s amazing that it took a family of four to make it! I’m sure it was a lot of work, but more than that, it was a great video. Thank you!
I also film with a drone and I know how my dad feels when his drone crashes. But I’m glad it was found. It’s a great achievement for Mona.
    We’ll keep supporting you!

  20. Wow what a nice story. It’s so great to see all the efforts all of you put in it. Once you see the clip, you don’t realise all the hard work, cold fingers, steep climbs that are a part of making these movies. Thank you for that. Ik makes me enjoy your efforts ever so much! Keep up the good work family Wagner!!!

  21. Once again a great look at behind the scenes. I’m still amazed that such professional and innovative videos are produced by only four people. Always beautifully shot with stunning scenery to boot. Well done Mona for finding the drone. Bravo for persevering in the cold to provide us with another memorable video. Looking forward to many more.

  22. Your sharing of the adventure(s) behind the making of this and other videos adds so much to the enjoyment of the final product. It puts us in the position as if we are a part of the incredible production itself. What a thrill! At least for me, a huge part of the attraction of team MLT is the feeling that I can share in all your wonderful adventures and live vicariously through you and your activities and creative endeavors. I can’t thank you enough. You make me feel as if I am a part of your awesome family.

  23. I love watching all of your “Behind The Scenes”. Wow!! What a misadventure to lose the drone. Props to Mona for finding it. It is such a beautiful song. I’m in love with all of your work!!

  24. It would have been magic to see and hear you play this on top of a mountain, As Michaela said “the whole universe was mine.”
Thank you for the insight in creating this video masterpiece, the intrigue of the missing drone and most of all the smiles you created. 🙂

  25. Hi Mona and Lisa, that is such great news “Questionable” is doing so well. I’m so happy, and may the momentum keep growing and growing and skyrocket. It is such a powerful and magical song.

It is so fun and awesome to see this “making of” of the brilliant video for your masterpiece “Songbird”. To me it’s like listening to Beethoven or Bach, there is so much depth and artistry to it, and it keeps getting better and draws me back to it the more I listen. Since it’s release during the Advent in December, there hasn’t been a day I haven’t listened or watched the video at least once or twice a day or more!

I guess it just wouldn’t be right if it wasn’t freezing cold when you filmed the video outside, in keeping with your longstanding tradition. It is charming to see Mona keep telling Lisa to slow down on the log, and it looked like you saved the day Mona, finding the drone. I could see the determination in Rudolf’s face to go retrieve the drone. I never knew there was an app to help find a downed drone, fascinating! There is something wonderfully fairytale like seeing Lisa walking the trails and side of the mountain with the red balloon. You are all such video masters, creating these absolutely remarkable videos, and you make it look so easy! Really enjoyed seeing this, thanks for doing it, and kudos to Michaela for the great behind the scene video shots! Everything is absolutely top notch. ????????????

  26. That settles it! Next time I lose a sock while doing laundry, I’m calling Mona! Of course my socks aren’t equipped with GPS, but it can’t hurt. I hope you consoled your poor Papa with some marzipan or pistachios while his beloved drone was missing. THANKS MUCH for another priceless glimpse behind the scenes! These are definitely among my favorites!

  27. Thank you so much for this glimpse into the ups and downs of your video productions. This one was a real nail-biter! I’m glad the hunt for the drone ended successfully. The highlight of the video for me was Michaela’s comment: “Hearing this song, on top of a mountain and the whole universe was mine!” She expressed so clearly the joy I feel every time I listen to Mona and Lisa’s music – the whole universe is mine!

  28. Thank you for this BTS shoot….I’m so glad to be an MLT Club member because watching the BTS for whatever video I somewhat feel like I was there too and it brings so much enjoyment as well as insight into what preparation you all actually have to do…each one of you has a job to do to make it work….and you do it so well.❤️????

  29. It’s great seeing what is behind these videos. And the filming location is breathtaking! The drone gives you the advantage of some amazing perspective. I’m grateful you were able to find it. Keep up the great work. Looking forward the the next video.

  30. I posted my comments on the YouTube video but want to thank you all for the “insiders” look at this process. The stories you will be able to tell present and future generations about your work are and will be invaluable!

  31. So glad you found the naughty rogue drone! A misbehaving drone is never fun – mine decided to take off across the tram tracks in Blackpool last year! Fortunately I was able to wrestle it back to where it was supposed to be

  32. As always, it is a treat to watch the “Behind the Scenes” videos. It feels like we are there. Everything is well-planned, and that allows you to handle those unexpected things that come up!

Kudos to Mona for finding the drone…well-done! Lisa, your range over the past three videos is very impressive: From one who bought a politician, to a young lady with a balloon, to an business-like interviewer; it has been fun to watch.

Now, it is a time for a song starring Mona!

Congratulations to the entire Wagner family. Be safe and stay groovy!

  33. Yea Mona, you were the hero of the day. It seems like you always run into rain after finishing things. Great video of Songbird! I am so glad to hear that your last release Questionable is doing so well! And we get to see Michaela a little. You guys should look at having a pow wow every once in a while, on film, with Rudi and Michaela and the both of you so we can get to know you as a family, maybe just talking about different things that come up, what do you think? Stay Groovy!!!

  34. You guys are so professional. I could feel the cold watching you. I like Mona’s directions in German. Have you guys ever thought of covering one of your songs in German. That would be treat. Lisa, luv the jacket; goes with your hair. But I guess you know that. Luv the MLT team/family. A big hello to Ms. Michaela. Stay groovy. Peace be.

  35. I’m continually amazed at the talent you all have designing and filming these videos.; as well as the dedication overcoming the cold and execution of drone rescue. As MLT fans we are so grateful to have our stars care so much, be so talented, and be so lovely inside and out. I loved the “Langsamer” directions, too!
You’re so natural and beautiful in this video – thanks for sharing!

  36. Glad you found your drone, it could have been like looking for a needle in a haystack !
    Very beautiful countryside .
Thanks for sharing the making of Songbird.

  37. Hi Mona and Lisa and Rudi and Michaela! It is so awesome to see how you make the videos. You go through so much for the right shots. We appreciate it! Thank you!

  38. These are awesome. You thoroughly spoil us with these BTS videos. I like how you started with a little opposition. “I have no idea why we have to film outside.”

Mona’s narration during the search is great. It really adds to the documentary vibe.

Michaela was on top of the world. Her smile says it all as she describes the shoot. I hope you spoil her a bit, as she takes such loving care of you three.

    TGIF!

  39. Thankyou for enlightening us with thus BTS photos /hiccups, Whew… to finding the drone… you had me on edge, will it or won’t it be found but the Finder Angels Blessed You…. I thoroughly enjoyed this and always learn something new and in cold-miserable weather that seems to appear for you sometimes, whenhever you’ve filmed outdoir footage at some point generates some unexpected excitement but it adds to the experience… Awesome stuff here ????

  40. Wow! Interesting. The Songbirds had to fly and find their lost bird. So Cool that you could track it with GPS. Glad you found your drone!!
Happy Birthday (March 4th) to your drone controller/Papa. ????❤????????

  41. Love this behind the scenes action video but I won’t spoil the result of the big hunt in case some people go to the comments first! Shows how you really have to suffer to make great art sometimes.
Regarding the amazing reception for Questionable it is fully justified as it’s a really fun professional video performed with such confidence by Lisa and has such a great chorus with amazing support from Mona. You both look great as a 60’s girl group! It’s not even the same Mona duplicated as far as I can see so two Mona’s for the price of one!!
