Sweet Lorraine – Duo Session

Oh, Sweet Lorraine!

We’ve been particularly looking forward to sharing this one with you! Most of you will know this version from our ‘The Duo Sessions’ album as well as the original recording from the ‘ORANGE’ album.

It’s so much fun performing this innocently evil song, and we were quite surprised with how well it works on just two guitars given that the original arrangement has a lot more going on. These Duo Sessions always get us to boil songs down to their most important elements. Hope you enjoy the video!

Stay groovy,
Mona & Lisa

  1. Absolutely outstanding. I have watched this countless times and I never tire of it (of course I could say that for all MLT songs/covers). There is so much joy being expressed by the ladies and the guitar work is extremely inventive.

  2. Very catchy. This song has gotten stuck in my head a few times lately. Some very nice guitar playing Lisa. Kind of Chet Atkins like at times. And Mona sells the song so good I almost kissed the screen. Lol

  3. Oh my! Both of you had so much fun with Sweet Lorraine. The smiles, the giggles, Mona’s smooch, and playing dead at the end…the two of you are pure performers! This video makes me grin and bounce each time I watch it. Also, using your “Baby Mine” guitars added a great touch.

Outstanding musicianship, outstanding showmanship, and most of all, an outstanding song. We just have to pity Lorraine’s rival, lol!

  4. I love your dark senses of humor!!! An upbeat sounding song that involves jealousy and murder. I also love the literal phrase ‘she would kill for a kiss’

  5. What a great song! And how well you made it work with stripped down arrangements. Love the guitar sound that Lisa came up with, really makes it, and Mona solid as a rock. I was really looking forward to this one, all of them really, but this on in particular. So much fun, spacial for me. I love how every detail is thought out, the “circus”, the outfits: funeral and wedding, a nice dress lily-white all too soon turns into red.
    Twin-Fab!

  6. Hi Mona and Lisa;

Is that song as much fun to do and as difficult to do as it looks?? It looks like you two are enjoying the song so very much. It also looks like it is a difficult song to play and arrange. Mike.

  7. I’ve been away for awhile and I come back to this!!! This is so incredibly good I’m swimming in bliss! How you were able to take such a robust and beautiful studio production and express it so completely as a live duet is beyond comprehension. This is simply captivating. Your musical genius is front and center here along with your irresistible personalities. You even sealed it with a kiss. You are both AMAZING! The best of the best! Thank you for this and everything you do!

  8. Watching this again and again I am amazed how fun it is to watch you both! This song is a fan favorite for sure and proves what great song writing you both have and blessed with. I can just imagine if you do a duo session of Count on Me how great that will be!!!

  9. This is just so good, where do I begin? The harmonies, the guitar playing, the “la-la-la” counterpoint, and the playfulness of Mona and Lisa. You really get the feeling that these Ladies are enjoying playing and singing for us as much as we are in seeing and hearing them! And, just like with the Beatles, whichever one is singing lead in a song, you win either way, and when they sing together, in unison or harmony, oh wow!
    Love, and Stay Groovy,
    David : )

  10. Hello Mona and Lisa and club members,
A bit behind a couple of days, and plays into what I have been saying all along any music or video’s that MLT Do is worth waiting for and this is proof. Such brilliance in the song itself from the vocal’s ( great job Mona ) and the guitar riffs ( love it Lisa ) the song writing is so good and love to be a part of it and hear it. Jung I know this one is your favorite and one of the good ones from the Orange Album which is a master piece to me. I also have to point out the beautiful blending of your voices not just only this song but everything you both do, it is natural and sounds great! I know I say I sing along with you both but I am going to take a pass on Sweet Lorraine, I love just sitting back listening to it. But what a great job you both did with just 2 guitars and taking nothing from the way it is on the Orange Album but wow you ladies are total professionals and you keep telling us about a new album? Well I patiently wait knowing with this video and the quality? I say take your time because we know it will be another gem to your library of music. I have XM radio and have the Beatles Station and today they reflected on Day Tripper ( in which MLT Does and does very well ) but John Lennon once said they were pressured to do that track because of a Christmas Release. So the key word here is pressured and to us club members? Mona and Lisa no pressure from us to do your next album. We know it is coming from the heart and not from the stock holders that pressure groups to put music out to keep up or just to put music out there. Sooo stay groovy and we love your music and spirit

  11. Indeed JP.
Love Mona’s curly hair. “All Penny, Brown Penny, Brown Penny, I am looped in the loops of her hair!”
Lisa has a kind of braid going on in her gorgeous red hair.
    Both look absolutely smashing!

  12. Amazing sound from the voices and instruments – I like this version even better than the Orange version. The vocals have a more dulcet tone, the harmonies are perfect, Mona is phenomenal at rhythm guitar, and the awesome Gretsch neck pickup with a Lisa’s wonderful playing. Great video work on all aspects but especially focusing on Lisa’s wonderful guitar technique. You can’t imagine what a gift it is to see the actual playing up close when you’re trying to figure out how Lisa (and Mona) gets the sounds from their guitars. Your talent is as breathtaking as your beauty!

  13. We have all been looking forward to this. Even stripped down, this song still conveys that heart thumping vibe of an old time mystery movie.

Lisa, I love your solos in these originals. They have a kool Lisa sound to them. I am sure the next generation of guitarists will being playing your records to learn how to play that fabulous Wagner sound.

Mona, if those curls took a long time, it was worth it. They really highlight the twist of the song. I love how you leave the chuckles in. It looks like you had so much fun with this one. Any bloopers?

Hats off to the production crew.

Hope you are having a groovy weekend,

    JP

  14. I really enjoyed your your musical ideas on guitar.very jazzy with some country flavor mixed in. I can also
hear in my opinion some early GEORGE HARRISON early BEATLES.
When I listen to this composition I was reflecting with some guitar players I use to have jam sessions with.
Ladies all in all very nicely done.

  15. This video is a beauty as are all the others I’m just wondering will it be coming out on YouTube anytime soon?
I can’t wait to see it on my 70 in

  16. Although I can only imagine what you went through to write and record “Sweet Lorraine” I have a hunch you particularly enjoyed this one. Wherever it falls on your fun song list, I’m pretty sure I’ve had the better time with it. Brava!

  17. I’ve been waiting for this video and I am very pleased with it….I always try to pick which one is singing lead and I had in my mind it was Mona…and it is… and I loved that smack of the lips kiss Mona gave the mic…when you’re listening without seeing a video and you hear a sound and say “what was that” and now I know it was a kiss……Lisa as always you pick that guitar like you were born with it…I really enjoy watching the videos and watching you pick out the notes and kudos to Papa Rudi or Michaela which ever one is getting the camera close up shots of Lisa’s picking…thank you girls for making this another TGIF.??

  18. Oh, what twisted kissters you are! It’s so cool how you can take one word, “kiss,” and turn it inside out and upside down and backwards as you weave your evil story aross its changing backdrops. You managed a similar thing with the words “Close to You” in that song. Beautiful to behold. Two of my MLT favorites. Thank you! Did the Beatles ever do that? Or anybody?

  19. Wow! First, “Orange” is such a great album. But to be able to write such an amazing song then break it down to work with just two guitars and vocals, wow! You two inspire me. You are the real deal. Thanks again for sharing.

  20. Einfach köstlich eure Arangemans die Lieder zu interpretieren. Es ist halt Mona Lisa Like und ich finde eure Musik und Euch einfach zauberhaft.

  21. I absolutely adore Sweet Lorraine. It is one of your best works and as good as anything by the Beatles or Beach Boys. The very first time I heard it in 2017 it reminded me of the timeless beauty and elegance of a Penny Lane or Eleanor Rigby, and the fun and delight of a Help Me Rhonda. I can’t help but sing along on this one, this from someone who doesn’t ever sing. My feet start tapping and the body starts swaying to the rhythm of the song. That’s how captivating and powerful your Sweet Lorraine is. With your stripped down acoustic version here, wow your intimate vocals and harmonies and those magnificent guitar licks just enhance everything and the song explodes! Every aspect of the song from the song writing, superb vocals, beautiful harmonies, and masterful guitar work and arrangement is absolutely brilliant, one of the finest rock/pop songs of any era!

After imagining this song in my head while listening to it for 3 years, to see it finally realized visually in this video is surreal in the most wonderful way. It’s elegance and beauty PAR EXCELLENCE in every way. From the hypnotic guitar lead in, Mona’s superb lead vocals, Lisa’s magnificent guitar work throughout, those beautiful harmonies, to the bright and happy La La La of the children’s choir, and the “sealed with a kiss” kiss, love it all. The ending of the video is a great touch! It reminds me why you both have become my greatest music heroes eclipsing the Beach Boys, Beatles, and even the great Beethoven himself!

Love both your bright beautiful smiles and expressions as you sing, and your curls are gorgeous Mona! Video is superb, well done!

  22. One of my favorite songs from the album Orange., another perfect job.. our pretty Lisa with her
Duo Jet and her voice was awesome as always.. the ” la-la-la-la-“.. is so sweet and cute…but the
big surprise of this video was that we finally “met” the sweet Lorraine, and wow., she is so beautiful with her curly hair, her happy eyes, her smile and beautiful voice and she sent a kiss to
all of us., try not to smile after that..
Thanks dear Lisa, Mona and Lorraine .. I loved it (again).
    Stay groovy.

  23. I’ve really been looking forward to seeing the video for Sweet Lorraine since it’s one of my favorite songs from your originals. Any insight into who’s idea was behind this scheming plot? Which of you wrote it and did you write both the tune and the lyric or was it more a collaboration. The tune has always had a nice heart beating sound to it as the tension rises along with Lorraine’s misdeeds. Perhaps this is based on an actual relationship and it’s fateful twists. Inquiring minds want to know. Demo work on this must have been a hoot.

  24. Even stripped down this song shines. Sweet Lorraine and Still A Friend are the two gems in Orange. The other songs are good but those two really stand out. Would love to know the back story to the songs, though. Still I really enjoyed this one. Mike.

  25. Oh, sweet Mona and Lisa! Wow, that was fantabulous!! I love, love the song and the Duo video is soooooo great. I have a sister-in-law named Lorraine and she loves the song, too. It’s a great song. Love y’all.

  26. Oh yessssssss…”Sweet Lorraine”, has arrived…in excellent MLTBuzzGroovifiedLuvWorthy rendition, You completely went above and beyond here, I believe this has now become my all time fave ” Sweet Lorraine” version, captured the mood, the lyrics, musical magic mastery, and them curls Mona, wow… Luv what both of you are wearing of your black n white attire … The whole ambience, creative flair of this , great way to start off holiday weekend…. Thankyou for finally revealing this version of an MLT epic classic??

  27. Great job !! Mona this song makes you shine. Great lead singing on this along with some good rhythm guitar. Lisa your lead and rhythm were excellent sounding. Both guitars complimented each other. The best thing of all. It was one of your original songs. LOVED IT!! Stay Groovy !!!

  28. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you! FABulous arrangement of my favorite MLT original. The video will help me get through a few tights spots I had figuring out the lead part too!

  29. “Sweet Lorraine” was one of my favorites from the “Orange” album. It’s twists and turns really makes it a song that reminds one of the old serial movies, “What’s gonna happen next?”! Great vocals and I just love Lisa’s guitar work on this tune. “Sweet Lorraine” was a great pick for Duo Sessions this time. Love you both and stay groovy. (Of course, I know you will anyway, ? ❤️❤️)

  30. This was wonderful!!! I have a big smile on my face!
Great song…nice arrangement….excellent lead vocal from Mona (love the curls!)….and Lisa’s lead playing is outstanding!

    Did everyone get Mona’s “kiss”?

  31. Based on a true story? I love everything about this video! The story, the harmonies, the guitar work, and of course sealed with a kiss! (mwa!) You guys are the grooviest!

  32. Be still my heart! The song above all others I’ve been waiting to see since Orange was released??. Love, Love this song! ❤❤
What a great story ” her dress lily white turns to red” I think Sweet Lorraine got rather mad??
I know its a favorite on one of the MLT team. I can only imagine their reaction to the video and when they sound out it was going to be recorded. I know one of your fans has always wanted it recorded also. Im sure they are on cloud nine as well.
Thanks again ladies for such a Spectacular video. ?❤

  33. Such a great song, one of my favorites of yours! And it does translate nicely to the duo session format. Then again, I’d also love to see what you’d come up with in a full video of the studio version…

  34. WOW, I love this. Mona’s curls are so cute.
I am leaving for a four hour drive with my wife. I wonder what we can listen to on our journey…hmmm.
Thanks MLT and have a great weekend.
    JP

  35. Thanks again for another memorable original Duo Session, Mona and Lisa. This is the perfect start to the weekend. ?❤️

  36. Hello !! I must admit that I like this duo version even more than the original on “Orange”. That is good too but this version does more right to the beautiful melody. Nice little solo, Lisa ! Groovy haircut, Mona ! Happy weekend !

  37. WOW!!!!!! Girls, that was just incredible!!! I LOVE Mona’s lead on this and Lisa’s guitar work just gets better and better and better. The artistic growth that you both demonstrate is just remarkable and I am stunned. You know, as much as I love hearing you cover the Beatles and my 60’s heroes, I am much more fond of hearing you write and play your own music. Your talents are endless and they are enclosed in two truly exceptional women whose personalities and love for life comes through in every moment. Viva las MonaLisa Twins para siempre!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
