“The Beatles in Hamburg” Part 1 – Hamburg Special

So, we went to Hamburg …

Only a few days before the big travel lock-down started all over Europe we have returned from a week-long trip to Hamburg, Germany. In a sense the timing was perfect. A week later and we would have had to cancel this little adventure.

We had always wanted to visit Hamburg so of course we had to make the most of our trip. There is so much Beatles and music history, which we have been curious to explore first hand.

Besides filming parts of a music video there (work in progress), we also wanted to document our exploring all the Beatles related sights so we could later share it with you here in the Club. Which is what we’re doing today! It’s no secret how big of Beatles nuts we are and we know many of you share this passion 🙂 So we hope you find this interesting!

Since we assume that many of you are currently in Corona lock-down just like us, maybe joining us on a virtual walking tour through Hamburg can make being stuck in your own four walls feel a little less daunting.

We also have a second part in the line-up, with more stories, interviews, some Hamburg scenery and finally our thoughts on it which will be coming soon! Today we hope you enjoy Part One.

Much ♥ and stay safe!

  1. Mona and Lisa, This was great. The only time I seen locations where the Beatles stayed and played up close. You did an excellent job.

  2. there is a good book about the beatles. it is supposed to be in three parts but so far the writer has only finished part one. any way it is about the beatles up to the recording of their first album. the book is excellent and gives a very good description of their life in hamburg. you should give it a look it you haven’t already. it is called tune in

    1. Thanks John, we have that book! We met the author, Mark Lewisohn, a few years ago. A walking, talking Beatles library 🙂

    2. I’ve got the 2 “book” version of that book. It’s on my to do list to read when I retire one day!. I had to order that version and when I went to the bookshop (remember them?) to buy it the lady behind the counter told me that she saw the Beatles when they played in Adelaide. I thought that was pretty cool.

  3. Thanks for the tour frauleins. For being the Red light district of Hamburg it looks no seedier than Bourbon Street in NOLA these days. Hope it smells better. Any problems turning the drone loose in the city?

  4. Thank you Ladies for the Tour! Thank you for sharing, Looking forward for part 2. you Always keep us Smiling!

  5. Very nicely done! It’s so much fun hanging around with you two (and Papa Rudi) at least on video! Your knowledge of the past is impressive! Can’t wait for part two!

  6. What an absolutely delightful pleasant surprise VLOG video to wake up to! So enjoyed that! I’ve read bits and pieces here and there about the Beatles time in Hamburg early in their career, but wow this on foot travel tour and being able to see all the actual locations and back stories you shared truly brings their story to life, like the police station/jail Paul McCartney and Pete Best spent a night! Did you go back to the Doner Freiheit for Freiheit snack? I learned so much. Kudo’s to Papa Rudi’s drone piloting skills too. Some awesome shots and flight effects. That was so fun! I can’t wait for part 2. What a brilliant idea to do this, thank you, just loved it!

    1. There are so many interesting/crazy stories about the Beatles’ time in Hamburg. In another comment John Leonard mentioned the book “Tune In” that goes into a lot of depth about their Hamburg days, in case you want to read more about it.

We got a Döner from a different place that evening. The Große Freiheit wasn’t really our preferred environment to just hang out and have dinner at night 🙂

Glad you liked the clip – next part coming soon.

  7. Well done ladies. I really enjoyed that tour and very much look forward to part 2. Stay healthy and happy! ?❤️

  8. A very informative look at the Beatles in Hamberg I found it to be very interesting. And there were somethings that I didn’t know.

  9. Thanks so much for taking us on this tour, Girls, it was a lot of fun. It’s wonderful how you studied the roots of the 60’s music, particularly the Beatles.

  10. Really enjoyed you ladies as tour guides! Great filming and editing – you and your parents have mastered the art of making videos

I would love to see a version with you giving a tour of the MLT history in Liverpool and how that interacts with some Beatles history as well…
Anything with my favorites is fab!

  11. Wow! Thanks for the tour. This is some history I never knew, and its really cool!!
I loved seeing the flash backs and snippets of footage and sings. I also very much loved hearing snippets of your original songs. One can see how similar your music sounds compared to the music from the 60’s.
One can also see that your music picks up where the music from the 60’s left off.
Thanks ever so much ladies for the tour and all the interesting information. And for doing this for us. ❤❤❤
    Looking forward to part 2!?❤

  12. Good Morning, just going off to work in a bit… Cool and most fascinating, Thankyou for the tour and got a kick out of photo bombing going on behind you at Police Stn… Lol… Those folks may/may not known who you are… Lol… I like how the Bambi art has held up… Thankyou Again, Looking forward to Part 2…you both make fab touring guides… Love the day/night transformations of the area… I can feel/sense that vibe from back then… ☮️?

  13. It is always a great pleasure to spend a few moments with you ladies. These images remind me of my visit to Liverpool. However, my first visit to the Cavern Club was not to follow in the footsteps of the Beatles but rather in yours, well .., in both at the same time. Now that I have become a Beatles fan, thanks to you, I can’t wait to see the second part.

  14. “So Tired, Tired Of Waiting…” Just kidding of course! There is absolutely no doubt that this treat will be more than worth the short wait. So happy to hear the whole MLT team is well and doing fine. You make lock-down fun!

  15. Thankyou for update, if I’m still awake by then, I’ll watch, otherwise after work tomorrow(Saturday), I’ll watch, it’s going to worth our wait…. Goodnight?☮️

  16. I’m happy, that you have visited my hometown. It’s a pity, that I could’nt meet you.
Today at spring break I wish that you stay clean and save from this terrible Virus!

  17. I thought I was the weird one, staying at home all the time… up all night…
Guess I’m not alone, and the world is catching up! ?

  18. Awww… Video Not Available??… Darn it… Hopefully it can be available ASAP…. Yes, indeed, would help ease cabin fever…. Stay safe/healthy
