This Boy Is Mine – Behind The Scenes Video

This Boy Is Mine – The First Of Our Debut Album Videos!

This Boy Is Mine” is a song off our debut album When We’re Together and the first one we shot after its release. To fit the rock’n’roll nature of the song we wanted the video to be a “live performance” rather than a story based video like “One More Time” or “Won’t You Listen Now“.

We had a live concert coming up at a bar called “Mamas” in Kirchberg am Wechsel (Austria), which is the village that our bassist at the time, Michael Mozeth, came from. Its stage and room were well suited for what we had in mind for the video, so we decided to shoot it there … before the actual concert, to get the most out of the live set-up we had to do anyway.

That meant we had to arrive around noon and prepare everything for the show first, like set-up, soundcheck and lighting. After the video shoot, with the venue full of people, we wouldn’t have had time for these things, and we also wanted to avoid any inconsistencies between takes later on.

The time pressure was on, especially on our Dad who had to do a proper live sound on a somewhat dysfunctional sound system before he could finally figure out and discuss the best camera angles with the filming crew. One last make-up and hair check, before we jumped right into production.

We had filmed most of the close-up shots before any audience arrived and made sure we got all the parts we needed. That’s why in the above picture you can see our camera guy David on stage, instead of our bassist, our Dad in the front instead of the audience, and our drummer Philipp roaming in the background, waiting for his turn.

In the meantime, Michaela welcomed the audience members who had agreed to be in the video. Each of them had to give their written consent for them being visible in the video and for online publishing. Then it was time to film the crowd and some wide-angle shots!

After some hours we had all shots we needed and a little more (just in case). The video shoot was only scheduled for the afternoon, and thankfully we could finish in time. We took all the lights down and enjoyed a hearty meal before we once again entered the stage for our proper gig!

The atmosphere of that night was incredibly uplifting, a perfect communication between the audience and band which can be a little tricky to achieve with Austrian crowds (ask the big names!). Especially when we got to play “This Boy Is Mine” again, people were dancing, jumping and singing so enthusiastically that we actually ended up using real live footage in the video as well. And when it came to the encore, guess what song we had to play again?

Later on, we decided to release even more videos we had filmed that evening.

Here’s “Wake Up Little Susie” by the Everly Brothers:

And “The Last Time” by the Rolling Stones:

We feel like we made a lot out of that day and let us tell you – we were more than ready for bed once we got back home way past midnight. Everyone did a great job, and we hope you enjoyed the making-of video!

Just in case you don’t know the finished video for “This Boy Is Mine” yet, you can watch it here:

Stay groovy,

Mona & Lisa

  1. Really cool behind the scenes video and story. It really shows how much work it takes to do a proper “Live” video. Props to your Dad for making it sound so good. I also really liked “The Last Time” straight away. It’s one of the first of yours that I had to replay several times. Such a groovy beat and well performed song.

  2. Having discovered the MLT not long ago, came across their originals in scattershot fashion. “Questionable” was first for me, then “This Boy is Mine”. Two very different styled songs, and both top notch of their kind. As mentioned in a few of the other comments, luv luv luv those polka dot shirts.

  3. Great live performance Ladies, on Wake Up Little Susie and This Boy is Mine. That’s really a great original by you. The polka dots shirts reminded me of the Great Blues Guitarist Buddy Guy. You know you are a great band when your studio performance and live performance are great. And they are Ladies. Stay Groovy!!!

  4. I absolutely llloooovvvvveeee watching the “live” performances….I know when Mona is rocking out when she’s screaming “alright” on Revolution and “no no no no no” on Last Time….and Lisa I really enjoy watching you play those lead “turn arounds”….I can’t get enough of the “live band” stuff❤️

  5. Another excellent ‘Behind The Scenes’ video from MLT. I’m also a Rolling Stones fan and am very impressed with their live cover of the Stones ‘The Last Time’.

  6. One of my favorite MLT songs and videos! Such infectious fun and one of the songs that really showed your love of the 60s sound! Fantastic! By any chance do you still stay in touch with your bass player and drummer from Austria? The four of you made a very strong live band!

  7. Bonus.. Bonus.. Bonus… Wow… Something magical about you and Polka Dots… ????????????????????????????????????❤️????????????????️????????????????????????????… Absolutely Luv all of this… Indeed a fun and productive time had by all and tummies Hearty and full… An appetite well earned to have worked up for…. ????… Groovy

Well deserved and thanks ladies for sharing.

  9. “This Boy is Mine” is a great rock and roll song and video. You can rock with the best of them! These 3 live performances are just stellar. I have a neighbor who is a huge Rolling Stones fan, and he was impressed beyond words by your “The Last Time” cover performance when he saw it.
