Tired Of Waiting – Duo Session

It’s Christmas soon! Are you tired of waiting, too? … wait, isn’t there a song? 😉

Today’s Duo “Acoustic” Session is electric! We’re playing our two Rickenbackers here as well as some percussion with our feet. It took us a while to get it all right at the same time!

We always thought that the verses were begging for a second vocal harmony, so we changed the arrangement a little and simply added one. We are always very conscious about not tainting the “essence” of a song. We try to understand the vision behind a tune before we put our hands on it, since that’s usually what makes us want to cover it in the first place. But after that we love having fun with the “cosmetic, creative details”.

Do you guys have any other Kinks songs you really like? Our favorite has got to be “Waterloo Sunset” but we haven’t dared to touch that one yet! 😉

  1. I love a lot of the Kinks early singles. It would be fun to see you two do your own hard rocking version of “You Really Got Me” or “All Day and All of the Night”. And I think it would be delightful to see you do an MLT version of “Sunny Afternoon” or “A Well Respected Man”.

  2. Nice MLT arrangement on this Kinks classic. I loved getting that Mona vocal right at the beginning with the hand claps from Lisa. That was a great way to start the song. And your harmonies are always spectacular. I have to ask… how many times have you played bass on one of your songs, Lisa..? I don’t seem to remember many. I know Rudi plays bass on most of them. Thanks again for sharing your wonderful videos with us.

  3. I never get tired of this recording. I will often just put my CD player in the car on “repeat“ and let it play and play… Your harmonies alone are worth the price of admission! 🧡

  4. Mona and Lisa, you were spot on with your version of Kinks. So tired. Have you ever covered their song. I’m not like everybody else. I myself love the Kinks and would love to hear you perform that song.

  5. Mona, you owned that song. Along with Lisa’s bass, the guitar sounded so much like the Kinks’ original.
As beautiful as your harmonies are, I think two voices wouldn’t do Waterloo Sunset justice. Big Black Smoke, Sunny Afternoon, Apeman and Death of a Clown are all great songs. The two of you would kill the guitar parts on Powerman, though I’m not sure the lyrics are Ray’s best work 😉

  6. It’s been quite awhile since I watched this video…but now with the Duo Sessions album I’m listening in the middle of the night as I drive around my paper route and I’m thinking I’m hearing this bass sound and thinking “ did Papa Rudi slip in there off film and play bass or is it Mona keeping beat on that foot board…so I get home and watch the video to discover that it’s Lisa on that Rickenbacker bass and Mona on her Rickenbacker and foot board….I LOVED IT…thank you….you should tackle that Waterloo Sunset and my first recollection of the Kinks was All Day and All of the Night…thanks again girls?orange heart for orange album and Lisa’s Lola outfit !

  7. I don’t know how I missed this cover from last year. As always, when it comes to covers, you “girls” set a high standard. Love your work!

  8. A very nice cover! So many great songs from The Kinks. A couple of Dave’s vocal leads that I think are underrated but worth checking out are “You’re Lookin’ Fine” and “I’m Not Like Everybody Else”. “Waterloo Sunset” would be awesome.

  9. Before you get into Waterloo Sunset, what about ALL OF THE DAY AND ALL OF THE NIGHT? I would love to hear your rendition of that old KINKS Classic

  10. The more I watch and listen to this video, the more I want to watch…love it!
Of course as always , Mona and Lisa, you are both stunningly beautiful – but I must say how much I love Mona’s tone on the Rick and Lisa’s melodic running baselines also.
Fantastic and fun and awesome! Thanks for this present!

  11. Wow!!! I like you cover of this better than the Kinks’ original. You made the beginning acapella part look so easy to do, but to sing without the instruments, especially at the beginning is really hard to do. For the song in total you made it sound like a completely different song from what the Kinks did…….it sounds better than the original. Always good work from MLT. Mike.

  12. I love the duo sessions. That is a great song and I did not guess correctly. Have you ever thought about Jefferson Starship,s White Rabbit? I would love to see you both playing guitars on that plus the vocals.

  13. After listening to your acoustic duo performance of this song for a few more days, comparing it side by side to the Kinks original version, I couldn’t help but offer up this further impression.

One of the best things about this Kinks song in particular for me are the early Kinks melodic guitar sounds that stand out so wonderfully with it’s almost hypnotic melody and vocals making it such a powerful song. On your version when Mona’s lead guitar riff kicks in and you feel Lisa’s intricate finger work on the bass, it just sounds incredible and you’re hooked! Both your guitar playing as always sound so crisp and rich; you play with such finesse! Your tight colorful harmonies throughout raise the song to another level beyond what the Kinks achieved. You bring so much more vocal color to the song. The buildup of the beat with the melodic guitar riffs and vocals throughout the song is a wonderful rock and roll experience. My feet start tapping along without myself realizing it. A great thing about your stripped down raw acoustic versions is that the essence of what makes the song so special comes across powerfully and can be really felt. Watching you both play is awesome and the feeling and passion you put into it comes across too.

I can’t express it in any fancy musical terms as I am not a musician, but hope that made sense. Love it! You do the song magnificent justice. As they say in North America, you both knocked this one out of the ball park, way out! ???❤

  14. Oh! I almost forgot. While I love this arrangement, the producer in me would have had you try it as a round, incorporating the harmonies as it progressed. Still playing the whole Christmas CD on the 25th for my show!

  15. Hi there,
thanks for the new session. My favorite song from The Kinks is clearly “Waterloo Sunset”, followed by “Sunny Afternoon” (strange text …) and “All Day And All Of The Night”.
    Many Christmas greetings
    Jürgen

  16. This is Fantastic! In my opinion it’s better than the original (again). Your harmonies and the way they are arranged add so much soul to the song. I’m still amazed how you can put out so much music with just the two of you doing it live! You are truly great (and beautiful) musicians.

  17. Sure glad you finally performed that song! I’ve been so tired of waiting…for it ?
    Good job on it too.

  18. That was fantastic! Great cover and you both look stunning. I do get tired of waiting sometimes, but don’t hurry your lives away; life goes by plenty fast enough. It is hard waiting on your next new creation, I will admit. As quickly as you turn out something new, I’m ready for the next one. Can’t get too much of your creations too fast. Love you guys! Very Groovy Cover. 🙂

  19. I’d like to ask for Stop Sobbing. Also, I’m going to feature your Christmas CD on Christmas night 12/25/19, 6pm U.S. Eastern Standard Time. Stream on wscafm.org or download the wsca app on apple or Google

  20. and the hits just keep on coming!!!! You guys always seem to put the “Midas Touch” on everything you attempt. Thanks and Happy Holidays to all

  21. I love it! Thank you! Love me some Kinks! I’d love to hear you girls do their song “Better Things”! Such a great song and an upbeat one too!

  22. Fantastic job, ladies! Mona, I loved how you started that out acapella and Lisa’s handclaps established the time. Your harmonies are always so completely tight. Thanks for sharing this with us! Merry Christmas … Brian

  23. Perhaps choosing a single song from The Kinks as my favorite is very difficult. Perhaps one of the ones I listen to most on my playlist is You Really Got Me…. Excellent version. You have a lot of rock and roll in your voices. The harmonies are perfect fillings and the sound is plastic and electric…. and great the way to keep rithm with the percussion hahahahaha 🙂

  24. “Come Dancing” always brings a tear to my eye / I’m old what can I say , my older sister used to make the clubs in Washington DC

  25. I suppose “Tired of Waiting for You” is my favorite Kinks song, simply because of the sheer amount of airplay it gets in my head. I think of it every time I’m, well, tired of waiting for someone or something.

Likewise, whenever I’m trying to turn onto a busy road without benefit of a traffic light, I hear McCartney singing “If I ever get out of here…”.

  26. As always you leave the covers better than the original ! . the song is complete now.. I loved..and you’re more beautiful every day.. but a have a request.. when will be the turn of
” Here comes the sun ” please, please, please lovely ladies ?❤

  27. Hey girls,
That sounds great as usual. I love the duo’s you do. Beautiful song and Beautiful ladies.
Mona are you going to grow your hair long like Lisa’s ?
Peace & Love & Stay Groovy

    1. For now, I’m letting it grow … until I make up my mind what to do next! 😉
And thank you – we love making them so it seems like this is a win-win!

  28. Just phenomenal ladies!
Your instrumentals are as amazing as your harmonies
    McCartney quality bass playing Lisa!
I’ve always loved the Lennon Rick, and I have one, but the guitar never looks cooler than when Mona is playing
    Thanks and all the best!

    1. Thank you Frank! Yes, Lisa really likes to play that Rickenbacker 4003s bass with flatwounds on – it sounds so smooth and melodic. And I am playing my 350v63 Ricky here which is the “grown” version of Lennon’s short scale 325er. Both fantastic instruments.

      1. Your tone on the guitar sounds like it’s straight off a Kinks record 😀 Along with Baby’s in Black, my fave track this week

  29. Wow wow wow ! I love it. It’s a fantastic version of this song. Your harmonies. Are. Fantastic. My Favorite kinks song has got to be Waterloo sunset

  30. Loved it…. Funky Fresh n Fab… Totally nailed the Harmonies and instrumentals on this… Had me toe tapping and singing along with ya… Great song to warm up with after a Deepfreeze kind of day… Hovering – 26 to – 30 all day with windchill… Jan/Feb Temps decided to come visit early… They can now go, their welcome has overstayed… Thankyou for bringing in Groovy tune warmth to comfort the Deepfreeze blues today/tonight for me??☮️

    1. They nailed the harmonies and instrumentals indeed. In Vancouver it’s been mm of non stop rain. At this time of year we have only 3 weather conditions. It’s raining, it rained, and it’s about to rain. 🙂

      1. Haha, Jung. That sounds like you`re talking about British weather. I thought Canada is all about snow and ice this time of the year?

      2. Hi Mona. It seems to be snow and ice everywhere else in Canada except the little area Vancouver sits in the PNW. Must be the effects of the pineapple express from Hawaii. But it would be nice to have a white Christmas for once. 🙂

      3. That sounds like Denmark at the moment. The last 3 months we`ve gotten more rain than ever since we started measuring, back in 1874. 68 days of rain in the last 100 days. Almost makes me long for a snowstorm

  31. Raymond Douglas Davies would be proud, If he ever makes a See My Friends part 2 Album, I hope he invites MLT to do a song with him. I really do like Waterloo Sunset. Ray called it his love affair with a sunset. So Many songs to pick from but right now I would have to say Wonderboy. John Lennon said it was one of his favourite songs.
Have a Good day Everyone, Good job Ladies!

  32. I had my own technical difficulties with lack of wifi on the train and less than spotty cell data coverage, so it was the longest train ride in history waiting to get home to see your new Duo Session video. 🙂 Tired of Waiting for You is one of my favorite 60’s songs and one that always stood out as it would transport me back to my teenage youth when I first use to hear this song on a Kinks cassette I wore down. It never sounded so sweet as tonight! Wow! Nice touch with that solo vocal start, and then those cool guitar riffs kick in, and your wonderful harmonies take over. Incredibly spectacular! That’s a great song and you make it even more magnificent. Down the road you should consider releasing it to the world as it would be a shame not to from the confines of the club. Thanks again for another slice of music heaven! 🙂 Absolutely loved it!

  33. Great going electric on the Duo’s. You understand harmonies so well, that it’s hard to think those are not on the original!
Of the Kinks, my faves are, as well as this, Sunny Afternoon, You Really Got Me and Lola. Probably Sunny Afternoon would be the best fit for a Duo Session.
    Thank you! Loved it.

  34. Great job. The harmony voice fits the song perfectly. I notished the percussion ended up on a different foot this time. Other Kinks favourites would be Sunny Afternoon, and i always liked A Well Respected Man because of the lyrics, but number one is Waterloo Sunset. A beautiful song, and you could do a great job on that one i`m sure. Have you thought of Joni Mitchell? A brilliant female songwriter, a lot of her songs would be perfect for you

    1. That’s true! While I’ve had a little go at some of them we’ve yet to record one. I’d love us to do one with an alternate guitar tuning (she uses them a lot) so maybe we’ll be able to fit that in somewhere in the upcoming year!

      1. I`m looking forward to that. She does use alternate tuning a lot, just like Crosby, Stills&Nash. Always gives me problems figuring it out

  35. Brilliant Mona and Lisa. Well worth the wait and nice to see Mona trying some lead again. And what cool bass from Lisa. Now ladies, time to go and practice “Waterloo Sunset” or “Dedicated Follower of Fashion” perhaps – great fun lyrics! I see Lampibampi is keeping an eye on things from in front of the Kinks’ “Face To Face” album on the shelf behind you. I also see the album “Something Else By The Kinks” is there too, featuring the hit singles “Waterloo Sunset” and Dave Davies’ “Death of a Clown”…. hint, hint!?❤️

  36. Oopsie, we published the post without embedding the video! We fixed it now, thanks for waiting 😉

Oh the irony that it would happen to us with this particular song. Enjoy!

    1. Actually, it was perfect the way it turned out. It is pretty Ironic, yet one thing for sure, I would Never Tire of waiting for a song from the Fabulous MonaLisa Twins.
You’re version of Tired of Waiting is so much better than the first. The addition of the extra Harmony part is not only Genius, but what the song desperately needed.
      Thanks again Ladies?❤

    2. Lisa, your original post came through with the title: Day 20 – Video fehlt noch. I believe this translates as something like “still missing”, or “more missing”. I assumed this post was just a teaser, with the video to follow. Hence my facetious response!

    3. Everyone makes mistakes. It only shows you are human like us. You both make great music. The ones you write and play and the videos are great. I also love the Beatles , Stones , and John Sebastian ones. Because they bring back awesome memories. Have you ever done FOR songs?

Peace & Love & Stay Groovy
      David Jones.

  37. Lol… Waiting to see the video… Not seeing it… Yet… Just your write up is showing…. Lol… Will enjoy it when I’m able to see/watch it?

  38. Yes, I am certainly tired of waiting for another Kinks cover. Where ist it? Well you know my favourite is “Waterloo Sunset”, and failing that “Sunny Afternoon”. I’d also love to see you do a fun video cover of “Dedicated Follower of Fashion”, all dressed up for the lyrics! ?❤️
