Playing Toto’s “Africa” With Mike Massé – Collaboration

Africa in Liverpool …

As we had announced earlier, this week we’ve been doing a special collaboration with US artist Mike Massé. We joined him on stage to play a few songs together, and we’re currently editing the Beatles cover video that we’ve recorded with him in our studio. After first getting released for the MLT Club, it will go up on Mike’s YouTube channel.

In the meantime, we thought you might like to see our live performance of Toto’s “Africa” (Mike’s most successful cover on YouTube) to give you a little impression of our evening at Liverpool’s legendary Epstein Theatre. (Please don’t share the link outside the MLT Club.)

A special shout out and thank you to Michael from Washington D.C. and Angelo from France, two MLT Clubbers who both made very long trips just to see the show! We loved meeting both of you personally and always enjoy bringing the MTL Club “into real life”.

Thanks for being here, we hope you’re all having a magnificent day,
Mona & Lisa

  1. Absolutely love this. Fantastic vocals.
In the latest WOTT of Sgt Pepper the girls showed part of another clip from this concert. Are there any other excerpts from the concert available to view?

  2. Thank you very much to Rudolf Wagner for these beautiful shots. I was in front of the trio during the concert, in the first row but the video, thanks to the different angles of view and professional editing, is even more beautiful than what we can see with our own eyes. Happy MLT fans!

  3. It’s not one of my favorite song, but I think I’m going to listen to it with others ears and mood next time. Always remembering you two and Mike. Great job!

  4. Wow, you guys make it seem like Christmas in May. What a great “cover”. It still boggles my mind that you are not as well know as some of the artist of today!!!! We should call you two the “Midas Twins” because everything you touch turns to gold!!!

  5. Weezer just did this song, and had a big hit with it. Your version was better. Add a keyboard for the fills and there would have been no comparison.

  6. Just managed to catch up with this and wow was I not disappointed. I have long enjoyed listening to you ladies play, but there is something about this that has just struck a chord with me.(sorry no pun intended.) Mona I was really impressed with your vocals and Lisa you took to the bass as if you had played it for years. Look forward to seeing the next video. Papa Rudi needs to be worried lol.

  7. Fantastic! Wow that was an awesome performance. The bass was fabulous, Lisa. As was your rythmn, Mona, loved the upstrokes. That really added to the song. Great performances by all three. Love, love, love! ???

  8. That was awesome, your harmonies were wonderful! It’s great to see you girls playing live, you both look and sound fantastic! Mona, I’m loving your hair!

  9. What a stellar performance by the 3 of you. Really a testament to just how great singers and musicians you are, so tight like you’ve been performing together for years. Just breathtaking singing. All 3 of your vocals are just impressive, and Mike sure can do those highs superbly, and both of your harmonies were fantastic perfection. Loved this and so proud for you both. Magnificent performance!!

  10. Sweet, I’ve been following Mike longer than I’ve been following you two, so this is a special extra big sundae with extra sprinkles for me!

    1. Now that’s cool! Thanks!! We’re working on another video with him so hopefully that’ll be the cherry on top your sprinkles on top your sundae 😉

  11. Magnificent performance! Harmonies were spot on. I was impressed with Lisa’s bass lines. Anticipation of other cuts from the performance will be high on my “can’t wait” list. The addition of MLT to Mike’s show enhanced it both musically and visually.

  12. OMG… Groovy Goosebumps… Whoa… Love this… Better than Toto… Sorry Toto… But these 3 upped the ante on it…. Now I have a true sense of what the evening must of been like… Kudos to Micheal and Angelo on their pilgrimage to the gig and glad they got to see you all and meet up. Looking forward to the Beatles cover you recorded with Mike…. Awesome Stuff… Thankyou for sharing!!!!

  13. I must also add that Lisa’s beautiful red, flowing, glowing hair and lovely red skirt are a wonderful contrast to the black background in this video, along with that blonde bombshell on her right of course!

  14. Ladies you never disappoint. An awesome live performance! The three part harmony was flawless and the playing very tight. I loved the original and I love this cover. Wish I could have been there. Thanks for this treat.

  15. Perfect as always..you girls are phenomenal musicians.. your voices in perfect harmony., Mike too.. but..you’re magnific on stage.. I’m very proud to be your fan.
    congratulations

  16. Three very talented musicians doing what they love. Sharing good music with others. A splendid time was had by all I’m sure. A great looking and sounding trio.

  17. Exemplary! What a Phenomenal Collaboration! You all sounded Fantastic! As always your Hard Work And Practice pays off! There will be massive, massive views of this! Ladies you sounded and played to perfection.
Thanks ever so much for sharing! ?❤??

  18. I think I like this version better than the original. I’m sure Steve Lukather will enjoy it.

I’m blown away, (maybe I shouldn’t be by now?) at Lisa on the base singing those harmonies with such a complex base line going on at the same time. Don’t try this at home… or maybe do try it at home but by yourself! It is a very difficult thing to do. Plus no drums to lean on.
    Chapeau!

    1. Thank you, Tomás!! I really enjoyed the challenge and it’s been a welcome exercise having to cover the low end frequencies for a change 😉 Now I get why Dad loves this bass so much!

      1. Thank you for your generosity toward Mike, we all got a lovely treat from it! It’s remarkable how he sits on those high notes unfazed. It’s also uplifting to see Mona so comfortable in her own skin, she nonchalantly owned the stage.

      2. Oh, and Steve Lukather has already enjoyed it, it seems 😉 Mike sent him the video and he absolutely loved it. “Hey Mike.. wow man, that was great!! Girls are killer and so are you !! Best to ya and please tell the girls I think they were great!”
        How cool is that!!?

      3. “…please tell the girls I think they were great!” Oh wow! What better kudos than a huge thumbs up from the original artist of the song! Congrats Mona and Lisa!

      4. Awesome! Now Steve Lukather knows what MLT Club members already know. You are greater than great! Hopefully this show will help propel you to the heights you so honestly deserve.
