Vincent – Duo Session

Starry, starry night …

We picked this tune as a “potential new Duo Session” a few months ago, and when we started practising it quickly became clear that we didn’t need a second guitar. We needed something else!

Lisa came up with the idea of adding an accordion … A day later and we were ordering a second hand “Pietro” off the internet for £50. It was nearly 75 years old, so Dad set himself a challenge to restore it to the point of making it playable again (which we documented in this photo post). Then it was Mona’s turn to learn how to play it!

Many YouTube tutorials and hours of practising later and this is how it turned out. We hope you’ll enjoy it!

We loved the challenge and absolutely adore the original. It’s inspiring, moving, thoughtful and just unbelievably beautiful. It was an honour to play it ourselves!

  1. I’ve been meaning to tell you that your version of this incredibly beautiful song is just as emotionally devastating as the original. Perhaps even more so, because you added the harmony vocal. I think this may be a major part of why I am such a fan; you two have a knack for finding classic songs that are crying out for a great harmony part to the original vocal. don’t even get me started on the accordion; it’s a perfect addition to the song. 🧡🧡

  2. Absolutely fantastic performance! I can hardly spell accordion much less play one! I think Mona and Lisa both can play any instrument. All they have to do is pick an instrument up and it will start playing🎶 for them😂. I think they could sing🎤 any song you put in front of them.💖

  3. It’s just Mona and Lisa creating another masterpiece. Lisa sings every note with such passion and the harmonies are next level. Wow

  4. What a beautiful song beautifully sung by you two and your voices are sublime. C est tres beau a la guitare et a l accordeon, tres doux. Merci.

  5. Please put your earbuds in for this one. These mixes are fantastic. It’s a clear night here. I’m outside staring up at a starry night listening to these beautiful voices tell this tragic story with such emotion it’s pointless to fight the tears. I love how we can hear their individual voices as they harmonize. Lisa’s guitar is as clear as the night and Bravo Pietro!

Thank you for 4:09 minutes of pure bliss on a starry night in the Catskills

(more like 20:45 these duo sessions are out of this world)

    1. My thoughts exactly. I use the over-the-ear kind now, but when I started using earbuds/earphones a while back it opened up a whole new world of listening to music. Hearing individual voices and harmony at the same time is wonderful.

  6. My what a lovely and sensitive performance. Beautifully, beautifully sung, both in lead and harmony. The accordion was a nice complement to the guitar. I hope it comes back in some other tunes. Now I’ll stop writing so I can listen to it again. I do hope this is included on the next Duo Sessions CD.

  7. simply magnificent, the way you play it . I even like it more than the original. The harmonys are excelent. I love the way your voices match. Thank you so much!!

  8. Oh, my god! That was so beautiful I’m in tears. I think I love this more than Don McLean’s version. Or maybe it’s that I’m 50 years older. The simple elegance of your twin voices, the guitar, the accordion enhances the song. And Mona’s Starry Night shirt.

  9. Wow ! That was incredibly beautiful, girls. I saw Don McLean perform that song @ Carnegie Hall in 1972 while a freshman in college and your version is by far the most beautiful that my wife, Judy, and I have ever heard. We live not far from where Don was raised in New Rochelle, NY & have many friends who went to his alma mater, Iona College. Too deep for our grandkids who love your music but one day they’ll appreciate this immensely.

  10. OMG Mona and Lisa, you absolutely killed it. Beautiful and amazing.
I always found that song to be somewhat haunting. Listening to you do it, wow, I had goosebumps and the chills. Many of your covers are better than the originals.
“It’s Getting Better All the Time”.

  11. Absolutely gorgeous! Your vocals and musicianship are perfection! And Mona, not only learning a new instrument, but playing and singing at the same time is not easy. This is one of your best ever duo session! Wow!

  12. I have been listening to your version of “Vincent” for months. Had no idea of what to say. Just kept listening to it over and over…at least 3-4 times a week. Passion, sadness, musicianship, the unspoken bond between you two…I could go on. Mona, learning to play the accordion is so much appreciated. You are an instrumentalist of the highest regard, and this is a huge highlight to your dossier. Lisa, your vocals both are sad and sweet, and your guitar work is just perfect.

The passion? Just go to 2:23 for that. Perfect, absolutely perfect.

Ladies, your version of “Vincent” always makes me shed a tear or two. I know that my comments are all over the place but it is what it is. My responses to a wonderfully-done performance. Thank you Mona…Thank you Lisa.

Have to add: Take your time in completing the new album. That is the wonderful part of being able to do things your own way. We will gladly wait as you make the album exactly the way that “Team Wagner” wants it to be!

  13. Without a doubt, the Most Beautiful version of this song I have ever heard.I listen to this masterpiece multiple times a day.

  14. I think I like your version even better than Don McLean’s original 🙂 I always thought a single violin would have gone well with his guitar and vocals (rather than the marimba, accordion and strings that were eventually used), although the single accordion accompaniment you have used sounds excellent with your voices.

  15. The best version of this song ever. I really appreciate it. It’s just so good – how you “quite magical”, make this song so nice and peaceful – and in the most excellent way, show your ability in the “Art of singing”.The best version of this song ever. I really appreciate it. It’s just so good – how you “quite magical”, make this song so nice and peaceful – and in the most excellent way, show your ability in the “Art of singing”.

  16. Absolutely beautiful! Such angelic harmony! Beautiful guitar work and Mona, bless your hard work learning how to play the accordion. You both are truly the best!

  17. This is so beautiful. As are you two singing it. I didn’t appreciate it until I learned about the life of Vincent Van Gogh. Thank you

  18. Standing outside on a beautiful Starry October night staring up with my earbuds full of Vincent. Time stands still for 4:09 and all is well. This session is perfect.

The accordion is a perfect fit and knowing the story behind it draws even more appreciation. Mona plays so elegantly I can’t help stopping everything and taking time to listen.

Lisa’s guitar is perfect for this song. The notes ring from her finger tips so effortlessly, and again so elegantly.

I have trouble finding words to describe the beauty of these voices. Perhaps I just did?

    JP

  19. Vincent is an incredibly beautiful song and it’s never been more beautifully performed then when you sing it! The playing and singing are both just amazing. The accordion was a really nice touch and I would love to have you tell us someday how you decided on using the accordion. Your version is perfection!

  20. Two things – Really groovy that Mona seems to be able to come up with the perfect blouse for some of the songs y’all sing (Van Gogh’s Starry Night for this video, and flamingoes for your video of Pink Flamingo!), and, I’d like to suggest that a flute played softly in the background would also have complimented Lisa’s guitar in this fine rendition.

  21. This song hits me right in my heart. This was a stunning take on the McLean version I’ve listened to for years. One of my favorite songs ever. Thank you for bringing it home.

  22. Very nice performance of a beautiful song. The accordion was a good choice; it sounded great. I hope it is not the last time we will hear and see it. Beautiful blouse Mona.

    W. Hauslein

  23. I think I bought the American Pie Album in the early 70s. Was a teenager then. I’ve seen Don McLean sing this on talk shows with just him on guitar. Those days as a teen I wrestled with depression and possible suicide. I have always used music to get through it all. Through out my life. This on especially. Your beautiful rendition and that beautiful accordion put me back in my room 13 years old listening and sobbing a bit. I always get emotional with this song. Thank you so much for this beautiful rendition. Peace. Stay Safe. God Speed
    . Stay Groovy ????❤

  24. I was in high school when the original version of this was released. I’ve heard it many times over the years, but never quite connected with it. This was like finally, really “hearing” it for the first time — just beautiful! Kudos to you both.

  25. I am going to see the Immersive Van Gogh Exhibit here in New York, and know this Beautiful version(and in my opinion the Best I’ve ever heard) will fill my head as I take it all in.
Thank You both for being a HUGE part of the soundtrack of my life.

  26. You know, every time I listen to Vincent by you I get goose bumps. I can tell when you both are playing a ballad or something close to your hearts you both really get into the vocals and the blend becomes even better, especially this song. You both give me Groovy Goose Bumps!!!!!!

  27. I couldn’t help but dive into this during the thunderstorm tonight. Just as I clicked play the storm died. No stars yet, but an occasional distant flash with soft thunder. It really gives the song a special haunting feel.

I gotta say, this is one of the most beautiful songs/performances I have ever heard. The mix is perfect. I’m listening through earbuds. Your beautiful voices blend so well, but I still know I have my earbuds in the correct ears with,”Shadows on the hill”. Lisa’s guitar is just right. Are those nylon strings?Watching the video I am remembering how much you put into this. Restoring the accordion, learning to play it, rehearsal time, and then this. It’s perfect.

As the a accordion fades in, I am reminded of Mona’s blues harp on Both Sides Now. They each add so much more emotion to the song. But now we hear Mona sing, and play. It’s perfect. Your voices are so sweet, you bring grown men to tears.

I am looking forward to listening to this in August. We live in a rural area without too many lights around, so the stars are very visible. August is the best time to catch shooting stars. That could make for some great syncs. I certainly don’t mean waiting til august to listen to this. It’s perfect anytime. ???? But it will be especially nice under a clear starry, starry night .

These Duo Sessions are phenomenal. Thank you for sharing these moments in time with us.

    JP

  28. Honestly, Lisa, when you sing the bridge with the ” you took your life as lovers often do” line, you literally gave me the chills. You ladies are a gift … to all of us. I love you both. Brian

  29. Beautiful song, indeed. My mother had that album. Love the accordion! Made me cry. There was a single Van Gogh painting up front at the Cincinnati Art Museum when we went there on our wedding anniversary years ago. Great performance– we both love your work!

  30. Vincent is one of the most beautiful songs ever written and Mona your backup blended so well. I had to listen to it again and it is one of my favorites by you, so beautiful it takes you to a time where he was putting colors on the canvass and the Palette had beautiful blues, greens, reds, yellows and purple.
Again so well done!!!!!!!!! Thank you for that. Groovy times are coming!!!!!!!!!! Walt Music

  31. Hi Guys, beautiful rendition, my mother thought my brother and I should take accordion lessons when I was 6, in short I was so small I couldn’t pull it apart. I’m still a guitar man.
Vincent is one of the most beautiful songs and you both nailed it!!!!! Thanks
Groovy and Far Out, Walt Music

  32. Your rendition of Starry Starry Night blows me away. You bring amazing maturity and grace to this piece and your harmony is so pure. I listened carefully to the accordion and your father’s restoration is a job well done… no wheezing or squeaking! Bravo in every sense of the word! 🙂

  33. I’m pretty much left without words. I’ve been listening over and over. It has personal meaning to me. It touches me deeply, so beautiful, so delicate. There’s so much… The accordion is so special too, especially with it’s story. My favorite cover, even Joni, how can it not?
    Thank you.

  34. All I can do is add to the chorus of praise for your performance of this wonderful song. It’s always been my favorite from Don McLean and your version is amazing. I also love Mona’s well chosen shirt that seems to represent the music very well! Bravo!

  35. I felt I needed to add a second comment … I have listened to this every night for a week and it still moves me, this is the two of you at your best, it is simply wonderful.

  36. Starry Starry Night was so beautiful and sad that I just wanted to cut my ear off and drink absinthe. I was able to restrain myself, however.

  37. Oh My! I cannot possibly improve on what others have said in their posts. What an inspired choice for one of your Duo Sessions! It’s perfect! Thank you!

  38. The most beautiful thing in this lovely duo session, is watching how Mona closes her eyes, concentrating and listening to Lisa’s clear warm voice, and then adds the delicate touch of accordion and accurate voice harmony, that are blending perfectly together.

This performance reminds me a lot of Simon & Garfunkel duo recordings…
    You are not less professional!

In addition to the music, you both look so beautiful.
There is a bit of sadness in your eyes, as if you thought about a specific person
(not Vincent Van-Goch, but maybe someone else that you loved…(?)

  39. One of the best songs ever written ! It´s a beautiful song about artist who wasn´t understood at his time but now is considered one of the greatest ever. The original is on the same album as “American Pie”, other Don McLean´s masterpiece. Not bad for one album. Your version is equal to original. Accordion is a fine idea to replace the strings of the original. Mona, you have learned to play it quite well considering the short time you had for do it. If there´s “Duo Sessions Vol.2” album to come in the future, I think it´s going to be dynamite! Stay groovy (and I know you will) !

  40. Hi Mona and Lisa,
Yours is a beautiful rendition of this song, highly charged emotion. I love the accordion, recently restored I gather ?… By the way, interesting anecdote from the artist Tom Keating on Vincent van Gogh : while illustrating Vincent’s technique on a television program, he said, of course, what Vincent should have done, ”shot a few art dealers instead’ in a very dry reference to Vincent’s final tragedy.

Not for Vincent the Pre-Raphaelite allegories, but nature head on, with the deep ultramarine blue and the swirling starry night on the edge of creation – this is where music and painting become as one.

This song sums it up perfectly, and is one of the all time greats.

  41. Hey Mona and Lisa!

You are so right! That’s one of the most beautiful songs ever written and your performance of the song is equally beautiful. I just love both! Thanks for choosing this song for your duo session.

  42. I thoroughly enjoyed this video. But surely you must know there are a lot of accordion jokes. I just couldn’t resist sharing this one….

  43. I know I posted a comment but forgot to add. Again this shows us the wonderful talent Mona and Lisa have. Not just one style of music but a library of talent. They both can rock with the best of them and I have mentioned that I feel they had to replace the roof at the Cavern club after they did Revolution but then you get a wonderful and lovely song as Stary Stary Night! This to me is such an amazing feat of talent that only a handful of people can pull off. Some have tried going from one style to another and did not have much success but Mona and Lisa can just about put anything out there and do it well and call it their own. God bless Mona and Lisa in this crazy world we live in , they are both so badly needed for us to have hope that this music is still alive and well. We love you both Mona and Lisa ……..Thank you and god bless
Bill and Maddie Isenberg huge fans from Pittsburgh Pa USA

    1. I agree Bill. Mona and Lisa are so amazingly diverse, they can take you from something so sublime as this “Starry Night” to wild Rock and Roll excitement at it’s best of a “You Really Got Me” and express the feelings and emotions so purely and perfectly to move you so deeply. That’s why they are so special, and why they absolutely impress the heck out of us all the more music they create.

  44. Such a moving and passionate rendition of an exceptionally poetic song. Mona’s accordion provided that catalyst necessary to lift this performance into a monument to Don McClean’s “Vincent”. Two beautiful girls, one beautiful song, it just doesn’t get any better.

  45. I have to confess that for me, much of the power of the original version of this song lies in the fact that it’s just one singer and just one instrument. I see the character as a lonely spirit who has found another lonely spirit that he identifies with. And one worries whether he plans to choose the same fate for himself. So this cover, flawless and beautiful as it is, was hard for me to process at first.

Then I woke up this morning with a workable interpretation: the lonely soul has finally found a soulmate who feels the same way about all the issues raised in the song. So now they have each other for support, and a happy (though still appropriately sedate) ending seems assured. Way to go, MLT!

  46. Wow!
Maybe I’m just tired (I work graveyard shift, and they added an extra 3 hours this morning), but there are tears in my eyes. This really improves on Don McLean’s original, and his was almost perfect. You continue to surprise me. Thank you. just beautiful. (Duo Sessions vol. 2, perhaps?)

  47. Sooo beautiful! Thank you so much for sharing this great interpretation of such a beautiful song. As you might remember, I play the accordion myself, and it always warms my heart to hear someone else play it (and so well! :)). Hope to hear more of your Pietro once in a while!

  48. Hi girls, another one that thrills me. Your emotional interpretation of this beautiful song with the restrained use of the accordeon of Mona and the clear fingerpicked guitar of Lisa, I only can say, wonderful! Keep on going! Love Frank

  49. Thank you ladies, this is so beautiful. You never cease to amaze with your covers . or anything you release. Thank you once again and stay safe.

  50. Every time you release something new,I think this is the best they’ve done. I agree with Alan Smith, I had shivers running up and down my back listening to it. Mona great work on the accordion. Why aren’t you two world famous?

  51. I inherited the “American Pie” album when I was about 9 years old, and that is one the first songs I wanted to learn when I picked up the guitar years later. That was absolutely a beautiful arrangement and performance. It put those weird shivers down my back that you get when you are suddenly hit with something awe inspiring. I think because I am older and the song hits me on so many emotional levels. I can’t wait until you put this our for the rest of the world, there is a long list of people I want to share this with. I don’t know if you have listened to the rest of the album, “Winterwood” is another great song off of that album, and if you need something funny, take a listen to “Everybody loves me, baby (what’s the matter with you?).” It’s one of my favorite albums still.

As always, you always take what you are doing up a step, and show that there’s so much more depth to what you are doing. That’s why I love you both so much. It’s not about money, or fame, it’s about sharing your gift and passions with the rest of the world to bring in some joy in a world that seems to be devoid of it. Thanks for this gift in song. Stay groovy!

  52. Dear ladies,

Thank you for the new gift from you!

    I enjoyed our performance.

You keep being so musical, so gentle.

The accordion sounds great to accompany your wonderful voices.

Your talents and your working hard gave us your new gift from two beautiful hearts.

Thank you so much! Best regards to members of your family!

    Stay groovy!)

  53. Mona and Lisa. I was not prepared for this extraordinary tribute that just showed up in my inbox. I listened to it 5 times in a row, mesmerized by the beauty of the song and your interpretation and instrumentation of it. You truly painted a Starry Night in a song picture, its essence and torture and beauty!
Vincent is definitely smiling down on you. Your talent lies not
just in your musicianship but in your ability to reach into the soul of a song. You are truly very special people and I want to thank you so much for sharing th he gifts of you art with all of us. God bless!

  54. I was not expecting this to be the song that you were going to be using the accordion on but what a great surprise. Probably one of the most beautiful songs ever written in the 20th century and your voices as usual added to this musical masterpiece. Keep at that accordion Mona, You will find they are a lot of fun to play and a versatile instrument to have around. I couldn’t tell if you were working any of the bass and chord buttons with your left hand there. With 120 buttons to work with, it’s a challenge and perhaps that side of the accordion wasn’t in shape for the challenge. Always remember that the C button is concave to let you know where you’re at along with the E and I think G#. It’s been so long for me I can’t be positive. Well the autodidacts can claim another victory on this duo session tune with Mona adding another instrument to her repertoire. A lovely version of this beautiful song and even used a starry night capo on that guitar. lol Thank you for all the effort you put into this production. Time well spent and it will be around now forever for your audiences to enjoy.

  55. Pietro reminds me of Mona’s blues harp, so subtle and melodic.  Or is it Mona Van Gogh?  Nice shirt. You look so comfortable with the accordion.  I can see a day when the list of instruments you don’t play is much shorter than the list of ones you do play.

Lisa’s playing is as perfect as always.  You are amazing.  And that voice

The emotion in your voices has brought grown men to tears.

It’s funny, when I saw this post I concentrated on the title Vincent. I couldn’t think of how I knew this song. Should I look it up?  No just play it.  Wait, I know this song. This is beautiful, truly beautiful.

After we watched this, we put on the original, as we had not heard it in quite some time. Marlo leaned over and whispered put the girls back on I like their version.

    TGIF!

    JP

  56. This song seems to have been written specifically for Lisa’s silky balladeer voice. Mona’s backing harmonies couldn’t be more perfectly matched. Beautiful soft tones from the accordion, completely dispelling its’ harsh polka reputation. Appropriately themed shirt to boot, Mona! I adore Duo Sessions, and this one is so enjoyably unique in so many ways!

  57. Wow, beautiful rendition. As always, sublime vocals and harmonies. Love the addition of the “squeezebox”, which serves to add another dimension to your musical skills and playing!

  58. WOW, if there’s a dry eye in the house, then they must be deaf. That was so beautiful…yes…tears in this old Sailors eyes. This was one of my very favorites by Don McLean back in the day. It had me in tears then and your cover REALLY had me in tears. The accordion was a PERFECT match to this song. Yes, on your next Duo Sessions release, you MUST include this song. Perfect harmonies, I LOVED IT. Thank You Mona and Lisa this brought back memories both good and sad. Perhaps the tears helped. Always Peace, Love and Happiness

  59. This most beautiful song, now performed by you, has moved me so much that I am literally speechless. The feeling you are able to bring to music is almost beyond comprehension. What an absolute treasure. Again you have taken one of my most beloved songs and made it even more poignant, emotionally intense and sweetly unforgettable. A pure slice of heaven. If I didn’t know better, I would swear you both were angels.

  60. WOW!!!!!!!!!!! Absolutely BEAUTIFUL!!!!! BRAVO!!!! I got goosebumps! Mona adds another instrument to her arsenal! Papa Rudi fixed that accordion up great! Pure perfection ladies!

  61. Absolutely wonderful! A beautiful rendition of a great song.

I was wanting to hear the new/old accordion that Papa Rudi fixed. I’ve mostly heard accordions used in polkas and was surprised by the sound of yours. It was different than I expected and just plain lovely. It blended in nicely with the voices and the guitar. I hope you can fit it into a song again in the future.

I am totally amazed that Mona learned to play the accordion this fast.

  62. Absolutely BEAUTIFUL!!! One of my all-time favorite songs, and you Lovely Ladies nailed it!! You have once again, Made My Day!!
Great job on the accordian Mona!! And Lisa, you were Amazing too!!(as usual)
And of course, Thank You Papa Rudi for the all the effort that you put in to bring it back to life.
As Always Love & Hugs to Team MLT

  63. Very nice cover of a very nice song! This is not just a song, but a perfect performance. Every time I am surprised about the quality of what you do. Your voices are beautiful, the guitar play is perfect, the accordion is wonderful, but as always you also look super and the video is excellent!! I can’t wait to see you life somewhere.

  64. Vincent is one of my favorite non-Beatle songs. I saw this performed ‘live’ by Don McClean many years ago. You two did a wonderful job of covering this beautiful song. I’ll listen to it many times. Thank you.

  65. Music can take you to such beautiful heights, and both your singing here does just that, so beautiful and elegant, and as always Lisa your lovely guitar work adds to that beauty even more, and then Mona comes in with the accordion and wow it’s so soothing! Such a great idea. Marvelous work on the accordion Mona, and nice Starry Night shirt. Absolutely beautiful, takes my mind and soul to a beautiful world.

The accordion looks magnificent, what a great find and looks like Papa Rudi did his DIY magic on it.

  66. This is beautiful. One of my favorite songs, about my favorite artist, covered my my favorite duo. I love sharing trivia and I have an interesting story about Don McLean. A friend of my was at a neighborhood block party in which Don McLean was attending. She did not know who he was and he played a few of his songs for a small group. Afterwards, she went over to him and said, ” You sound just like the guy that made the records.” His reply to her was, ” That’s because I’m the guy that wrote and recorded the records!” P.S. Mona, Love your shirt!

  67. I’m beyond words, completely speechless. My God, its Beautiful!! Don McLean will be deeply touched. The Accordion is the perfect touch! Its sooo Beautiful, and Mona plays it so well.
Mona your Starry Starry Night Shirt is perfect!
The night setting of the background and Lisa’s midnight black shirt goes extremely well.
Everything from. The nail polish, to Lisa’s red hair is superb.
The MonaLisa Twins magical touch is Devine.
Well Done Ladies, Well Done!! Team MLT, you outdid yourself!
    Rick Ross

  68. Your presentation of VINCENT left me speechless and spellbound …it was so beautiful and Lisa there’s a reason why Mona is the “rocker” and you are the “balladeer “…your delivery Lisa on ballads is so beautiful and your guitar playing is exceptional…..Mona you have that special knack of picking up an instrument and being able to bring it to the session…I was thinking that your blues harp would have worked well here…but the accordion allowed you to harmonize…listening to you harmonize with Lisa on these ballads bring joy to my heart…..this rendition of Vincent once again proves how you girls can take a song and make it yours…Thank You God for giving us The MonaLisa Twins❤️????

  69. O.M.G. I love you so much! One of my favorite songs ever, and if I’d heard anyone else was covering it I would have cringed, but with you I couldn’t wait to hear it immediately! And you didn’t disappoint! So wonderful! Yet one more that I daresay is better than the original! This is just too incredible!

  70. Amazing sound in my opinion better than the original. “Sorry Don :-{”
Would like to hear the girls sing American Pie next a bit more up beat but another great song from Don McLean.

  71. Whoa, a lovely song , that was new to me, as I was not familiar with it, or if I had heard of it, It’s been that long ago, but hearing this from you, today, with the perfect accordion accompaniment, just makes this song magic, and of course, the harmonies, Lisa’s fab guitaring , and Kudos to Mona for taking upon the learning of the accordion, you did us all proud…Thankyou for yet another stellar Duo Session !! ????????

  72. Amazing. You can even take a song I grew so, so, so tired of hearing and make it enjoyable, interesting and beautiful. Your wonderful voices add so much. What a hit. Another home run.

  73. Just completely gorgeous… the harmonies, the leads, the accordian harmonies… and of course, Mona and Lisa. What an incredible job on a wonderful and very poignant song by Don McLain. You ladies defy my imagination….

  74. Although I listened to the original countless times I never fully understood the lyrics until I heard your version. The accordion fits the arrangement and it’s beautifully played and sang.

  75. Oh my Gosh! This was a total surprise! That album came out when I was in college and I wore it out cuz I played it so much. Your version gave me goosebumps! And that accordion WOW. This is going to be one of my all time MLT favorites!!

  76. Speachless !!! it was an amazing rendition of a track I never realy liked as the original but you girls brough it to a brand new perspective – your tones and harmony are what makes you so good and to use an accordian was an inspiration only your creative minds could conjur up – it worked brilliantly – your dads work on restoration was well worth it – another MLT Classic –

  77. OMG .. What a wonderful version of one of the most beautiful songs ever composed .. My daughter came home when I was watching this Friday gift a few times. When I opened the door he looked into my eyes and said “Dad are you crying ?, what happened ?, and then I said nothing dear, i’m just happy, my soul was traveling through starry nights and colorful paintings., two angels provided me with this trip .. so I showed her the video and I believe that some dust fell in her eyes too, Congratulations dear Mona and Lisa for the production, Mona’s T-shirt, the blue capo, your nails painted like a sky of stars I believe Michaela helped in that, and of course congratulations to Papa Rudi for restoring the Pietro accordion and Mona for playing it so beautifully, Lisa …your perfect guitar would be enough to accompany a choir. Thanks beautiful Wagner family. You’re fantastic… dust keeps falling in my eyes.
    ????♥️????????

  78. I’m lost for words… Such a beautiful song performed to absolute perfection!
Thank you both for sharing your seemingly unlimited talents with all of us!

  79. As soon as I saw this was going to be a cover of Starry Starry Night, I got excited! I clearly remember when Don McLean released it and I probably listened to it hundreds of times. Mona, Im so impressed you pickup up the accordion so quickly and learned it well enough perform with it…wow! Lisa, as much as both you and Mona always sound fabulous, in this song, your voice is absolutely golden…. golden. Knowing the origin of the song and your beautiful rendition of this cover definitely tugs at my heart strings. Thank you both for again sharing something very special with those in the club and soon the world.

  80. Tears and goosebumps. Lovely job, both of you. Thank you Rudi for repairing it. Thank you Lisa for your guitar work and vocal. Mona, it is so hard to learn a new instrument, but to be able to play it as you are singing. Just wow! The blend of your voices is angelic. This is special.

  81. Moving is correct. I have tears with this one simply because of the beautiful voices you both added to this song, so in tune and lovely to listen to. Personally I needed this today. I remember this song in 1971 / 72 and Don McLean did a great job then and you ladies did it justice in 2021. Pa Pa did a great job restoring the instruament and Mona wow great job playing it. Thank you both so much for sharing your wonderful voices and talents with us. Lisa you sang this one from your heart like you both always do. wow so glad to be a club member.

  82. Wow! That is such an amazing and beautiful and moving cover. Gave me chills. Mona, thank you for learning to play the accordion. Great idea, Lisa! Beautiful guitar work, also. And the vocals are awesome. Great cover Lisa and Mona! I love ???? it!!!

  83. Absolutely wonderful I just love it Lisa’s guitar playing is truly wonderful and Mona well done with learning the accordion you two have simply made my weekend

  84. How beautiful! Both of you – and the completely enchanting version of the wonderfully melodic song. t never ceases to amaze me how angelically beautiful both your individual voices are and how perfectly they harmonize. Big kudos to PapaRudi for his work – the accordion is the perfect addition, like the mellotron in the Beatles’ We Can Work It Out.
And amazing Mona just practices and is able to play it, along with Lisa’s lovely finger picking and fills. Thanks for this wonderful gift!

  85. Oh wow! Goosebumps all over! A perfect rendition! Your voices transported me to another dimension! I did have to laugh because the accordion is almost bigger than Mona!
