What A Wonderful World – Duo Session

MonaLisa Twins playing "What A Wonderful World" Video Still

Flower power in our backyard!

When we returned back home from a 2-week holiday in 2010 we found that our backyard had transformed from a regular boring, green meadow to … this!

So, before the inevitable had to happen and the lawn mower had to come out we filmed a little video on this yellow lawn of happiness. A few weeks prior we had learned how to play “What A Wonderful World” for our Grandpa’s 90th Birthday. He loved Louis Armstrong, and together with our cousin we had played it to him at the family Birthday party.

There’s no better soundtrack to those tranquil Austrian Spring days than “What A Wonderful World”. We still remember how difficult we thought those chords were and how we had to do several takes before we got one without any mess-ups. The vocals are a bit wobbly at times, too, but we think it’s still a sweet capture of life and our musical journey back when we were sweet 16.

As soon as we had uploaded it to YouTube back then it got taken down for copyright reasons. YouTube has been a different place in 2010. Some of the copyright rules were not well established yet, which led to a few publishers (like the ones of “What A Wonderful World”) taking down all cover versions. So, many of our subscribers (and certainly the people who found our music since then) never got to see this video.

We thought it would be nice to reupload it now, all those years later, as a MLT Club exclusive. A little acoustic cover in the sun, with a ton of happy little flowers 😉

  1. Not my normal style of music, but this is one of those tunes that just grab you. You girls did it justice for your age, however, and I may never say this again, I don’t think anyone could cover that better than Louie. Between his voice and the heart he sings it is just one of a kind. Again, just my opinion!

  2. Very nice. I’m an old Rock n Roll lover myself but there are songs like this that are just so wonderful no matter what genre you want to call them. You do a nice job on this for being so young.

  3. Snowed in today in Western New York State and after shoveling and snow throwing, watching MLT videos was much needed and appreciated. Being in such a MLT mood, just had to comment on a few videos and ask a couple of questions in the forum.

Can’t wait to see my front lawn ready to be mowed on a Spring day and going to a baseball game.

As always, a wonderful performance. The nylon-string acoustic guitars was a perfect choice for this song!

  4. WOW! One of my absolute all-time favorite songs by anyone is Louis Armstrong’s “What a Wonderful World”! Now your version joins that list. I know you did it for your Grandpa, but I’m sure I can (rather easily) convince myself you were performing this one from your back yard just for me all those years ago. Thank you!

  5. Wonderful music, wonderful family, wonderful club. Thank you so much for sharing your special wonderful world with the rest of the world!

  6. One of the most beautiful things about enjoying this video is watching where you came from and how far you have grown both musically and as women since that time. I always have commended you, mom and of course Papa Rudi for putting out your early performances to be seen and showing you exactly as you were at the time. Many performers, producers and bands would never do this, instead focusing too much on getting everything perfect and “acceptable” to whatever audience they are looking to impress. But one of the very best qualities of the MLT team is allowing and striving for the experience to be real…exactly as it is, This video is wonderful and another perfect example is your version of “Two of us”. It does not get any more real than that and is by far one of my favorite videos. That’s why you have so many loyal followers who genuinely care about you both musically and as people. The general rule is you get out of something what you put into it and bravo for being the way you are. Don’t ever change and thank you as always for all the joy 🙂

  7. Even in the simple and raw outdoor backdrop of your backyard sea of dandelions, your beautiful singing voices carry the beauty of this song straight to the heart. I close my eyes and your singing harmonies with the gentle strumming of the guitars is soothing and wonderful as the title of this song. Thanks for this ladies! Just love your live acoustic music.

  10. I’ve always enjoyed this song so much. Satchmo had a very special way with a song. I had the privilege of seeing Him perform the song on TV then getting to hear it again in the Movie Good Morning Vietnam.
I think your version is very commendable. Your voices are Very Young and Pure. I got to see your cover 3 Years ago and have missed it since. Thanks so very much for reuploading it again.?❤

  11. I have seen this video before floating around somewhere in the ether on the internet but it’s always great to see you in the early stages of your careers. Wow, how many hours of practicing has gone by since then you think? Practice, practice, practice. It don’t come as easy as some would think. I remember someone mentioning how much talent you have, but talent doesn’t get you very far without practice and even more practice. Always a new lesson around the corner. Learn a guitar lick from another musician and make it your own. As I approach retirement I’m certain that I’ll be spending a heck of a lot of time playing the piano again and hopefully I’ve got enough brain cells left to at least entertain myself. Love your music. Love your dedication and love the way you deliver the music to your fans. I think back now to when I accidentally found the MonLisa Twins Club on your website before it was apparently active and tried like the dickens to sign up for it with no luck and told others about it. Michaela told me the reason you couldn’t take my money was it because it was a future development but said the response was so good that you guys better hurry up getting it set up for fans to join. I think you’re glad you did. Response has to have been tremendous.

    Tootles,
    Rich

    1. I tried like crazy myself to join, and was so disappointed when I could not.
So glad to hear of many new members in the MLT Club.
Welcome everyone from Atlanta, Georgia in America
