Help! – The Beatles – What’s On The Table

It’s time for Help!

We are back with a new “What’s On The Table” video, and today we are having a listen to The Beatles’ 5th studio album ‘Help!’. We have already enjoyed their follow-up albums ‘Revolver’ and ‘Rubber Soul’ in previous episodes but are excited to go back in time to 1965.

So many good songs, so much magic. You know how giddy we can get when talking about the Beatles’ music, and we love conveying that excitement to these episodes. 🙂

We’re looking forward to hearing your own personal anecdotes about ‘Help!’!

  1. I was so happy to see you mention “the night before“! It’s one of those lesser-known Beatles tracks, that absolutely shines; it always gets a good response when I perform it when busking.

And in the spirit of having a conversation here, I maintain that the definitive version of “I’ve just seen a face” is either the wings version from the “wings over America” two-record set OR the “unplugged” version. 🤔

  2. I’m such a newbie to this club that I just found out about this series! And this was the first episode I chose, Beatles fan that I am. I am also a big fan of Andrew Hickey’s amazing podcast “A History of Rock Music in 500 Songs”, which these videos remind me of. I think it’s telling that Mona mentioned here her ambivalence about most Beatles covers; I definitely share that feeling…I’m a very discriminating Beatles listener. A Beatles cover either has to be so “out in left field” that it helps the listener hear the song in a totally different way (my favorite example is “Julia” by Chocolate Genius Incorporated, from the “I am Sam” soundtrack)

or must capture the spirit of the songs so completely that you are reminded of why these songs are so great — which is why I’m HERE! I’ve never particularly enjoyed listening to others do Beatles songs…but Mona & Lisa have “that thing” which makes their covers just as enjoyable as the original Beatle tracks. “That’s my story, and I’m sticking to it!” Thank you, Mona & Lisa!

  3. Another great WOTT, and I’m sitting here with a smile on my face like always, as I slowly work my way through the Club back catalog. Thanks again, you are wonderful. Another great Beatles album. WOTT is a great way of doing this, it’s almost like having a conversation. Almost. In my case a conversation through a time warp since I’m showing up so late.

I feel kind of like a pagan though, in a way, because for all the albums they put out, I own exactly one (1). Abbey Road. The last album they made. I was 5 when they started, so not paying much attention. I do have McCartney’s first solo album too (thanks for covering Junk, I really enjoyed that).

Somehow I managed to absorb their music from the cultural ether though, since I seem to remember all these songs. Maybe I’ll go find the Help! movie. Thanks again.

  4. This new MLT Club Member having lots of fun making way thru the various archived material. “What’s On The Table” is certainly very enjoyable. “Help” the half way point thru imo the 5 primo Beatles albums – starting with “Hard Day’s Night and ending with “Revolver”. There are no bad Beatles records, but this is my favorite period, the music I’ve listened to the most over the years. We folks in the states no doubt recall got a truncated version of the album, with some added instrumentals. Capitol Records (we didn’t know it at the time) tried to milk the material over additional albums.

I love listening to the ladies (and mostly agree) comment about the songs, but admit a little frown when hearing the dismissal of “Act Naturally”. The Beatles, among other things, were one of the first country rock bands. This song and “Beatles for Sale” album demonstrate that fact. The Fabs were fans of Buck Owens and the Buckaroos (shared record labels), and though Lisa might not be aware of it, I can hear a Don Rich influence with her lead playing during “Baby’s In Black”, “I’m Looking Thru You” (the ladies absolutely nail the tunes on the “Duo Sessions”), and a few others. I’m still hoping for a cover of “I Don’t Want to Spoil The Party” somewhere down the road.

“Ticket to Ride”, btw, prob my all time favorite Beatles single and George guitar riff.

    1. Hi Michael. I’m a new fan of the Twins too. I first started watching there videos in October. I joined the MLT club midway thru the advent calendar. I just found these On the Table videos and also the Out and About videos are cool too. I agree with you on Act Naturally. Such a classic Ringo tune. Also recorded by Buck and Ringo together later on. The Twins original Sweet Lorraine on the Duo Sessions also has a lot of country flavor. Lisa’s guitar work on it has a Chet Atkins feel to it. These girls seem to have a gift of knowing just what to do with a song. I think I will be a fan and club member for a long time. Hope you feel the same. Keep rockin’.

      1. Hi Tim. Yeah, “Act Naturally” and “Honey Don’t” likely my two favorite Ringo/Beatle tunes. Remember being surprised hearing John on lead vocal of the Carl Perkins classic on a Live at the BBC performance. But the song eventually given to Ringo, and to this day it remains one of his signature tunes.

I’m probably more than a half way thru all the goodies at the MLT site; as a newbie got lots of catching up to do. The ladies have been a surprising discovery, both new and instantly familiar at the same time. Exciting to find new, favorite artists late in life!

  5. First of all I love the blue blazers you are wearing. Beautiful. Also I like the little drum at the back of Lisa. I notice that you have the RAM album. I have it. I love it, I bought in 1971. I saw the movie HELP in 1965 at the cinema Capitol in Montreal where I live. The girls were shouting during the movie. I like your opinions about the songs. I agree with you. Merci pour ses bons commentaires.

  6. I’m with you Mona,I am very picky when it comes to Beatles covers(I love all the versions you and Lisa do).I watch the movie at least 4-6 times a year(along with A Hard Days Night,Yellow Submarine,Magical Tour).I sure hope you ladies do a version of I’ve Just seen a Face in the future(and I’m sure it will be awesome too). For now,I am patiently awaiting the arrival of copy of Why?
As Always Sending Love & Hugs to you all. 💛💓

  7. I return to watch this video often just to hear Mona instruct us on the proper way to pronounce the album title.

  8. Originally bought the Help LP on the same day with Waiting For The Sun LP by The Doors in the Summer of 1991. Strange to think that I bought both for less than the cost of one of those albums now.

  9. No doubt, some of you are aware that the word spelt out on the cover of Help!, in semaphore, is not H E L P. It is R U Y V (although Ringo’s letter could also be D), now that is an album waiting to be written!

  10. Birthday boy from the 23rd here. I’d saved this to watch either on or just after the big (?) day but, like many others, it just won’t play. Despite reloading many times and signing in and out the video does not even upload sufficiently to try and start it. There is just a photo of M & L holding the album.

      1. I just get a crossed-out play button: no images at all. Digging through the source, I found the still: https://test4.monalisa-twins.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/WOTT_Help_570.jpg but the video itself looks to be on Amazon’s web hosting platform and I can’t tease out just the video file like I could with some earlier ones, such as: https://www.dailymotion.com/embed/video/k2972DE1dyUPnYw9Z5J?ui-highlight&start&endscreen-enable=0&controls=1&mute=0&ui-start-screen-info=1&ui-logo=1.

      1. Thank you for the advice David. I’ve got progress and the video plays but there is constant buffering. I’ll be patient and try again in a few days (I’m going away for 2 nights).

  11. I don’t know what I’m doing but so far I’ve been able to watch HELP twice. For some reason it doesn’t play every time for me but it seems like if I interrupt and then come back to it it is playing.

  12. HELP! The video tries to play now, but pauses (buffers, maybe?) every few seconds. I tried letting it play thru with the pauses and replaying it, hoping the pauses would disappear on the second go-round, but to no avail. Also, all your other club vids let me play them using YouTube which lets me stream them to my TV and this one doesn’t. Not sure if this is a glitch or just my problem. Sorry to bug you with this.

    1. Sorry, we just fixed it and the video should play again! Thanks for letting us know, we only realised the bug because of the comments. 🙂

  13. I can´t play it either. But without seeing a video I can say that “Help!” is a very important Beatles album. It´s more diverse in musical expression and the songs are very good. If first four albums are the first period in Beatles music, this album started the so called middle period. Other albums on that period are “Rubber Soul” and “Revolver” . All the songs are good or even better but my biggest favorite´are the title song, “You´ve Got To Hide Your Love Away” and “Night Before”.

  14. Thomas, I’m not getting any messages but can’t play this one either. Most recent video played fine and sent to my tv fine, too

  15. For some reason I’m getting a “no video with supported format and MIME type found” message with the video. Anyone else? The newest video on the new album works fine though. First time I’ve ever seen this message here.

  16. Always enjoy watching your videos and getting your thoughts on songs and albums. The excitement and anticipation of a new Beatles song was always one of the highlights of my youth. You brought back some really good memories and made me happy!
    Loved it!! ❤????

  17. Oops, we are a little late to the party. Those blazers look really sharp. MLT fans are the best. Way to go Kristi and Neill!

After a couple clicks we learned that despite her manly looks, Eleanor Bron had a very successful career in show business. And Wikipedia claims she may have influenced Paul when writing “Ealonor Rigby”. And if Wikipedia says so…Wow, does anybody say “show business” anymore?

As always, we love these WOTTS. Thanks for sharing another great album with us.

    Marlo & JP

p.s. Mona, this is Marlo. If you really need help, blink your eyes three times in the next video.

  18. Thanks for another video, and great colour coded outfits too!
It’s a great album (aren’t they all!) and Face is one of my favourites from the Fab Four.
When I used to play in a band we did a mini Beatles set within a set. Five Beatles songs in a row. The crowd would be up and dancing until we played Face, and it killed the dance floor 🙁
Don’t know why, maybe it’s not that well known to non fans, but it was depressing playing one of my faves and having everyone go to the bar……

  19. Hi again,
Speaking of bands that cover other artists music. Here in the US we have lots of Tribute Bands. I have seen the Liverpool Shuffle and also Rain (originally called Reign) playing Beatles’ music. They were very good. I heard that there is another band called Help! (Haha)
    I never heard them.
I saw Desert Highway playing Eagles’ songs.
Also Big Shot playing Billy Joel’s music.
These bands were really excellent – if you closed your eyes you would think that the actual artists were performing.
But these bands are trying to exactly copy the original musicians. There really isn’t any originality there.
Now listening to Mona & Lisa – they are putting their own twist or style on the songs and as Christopher said – they make each song their own. This is enjoyable and refreshing.
I enjoy listening to the original artists do their songs, but it is also so great to listen to the Twins with their versions. You are wonderful.
And “It’s getting better all the time”.

    Cheers
    Bobby S
P.S. also love MLT’s original music and I’m anxiously waiting for the new CD. ????

  20. I’m conflicted as to what I want for my new ringtone: Is it Mona shouting “Help!” or Mona and the Evil German Whispering: “Why are you so bad at this?”

“The Night Before” is a great song and has that unique Paul McCartney sound that fills the room with just his voice. Is it double tracking? A spot of reverb? Whatever it is, Lisa achieves the same kind of presence in the MLT recording, which it just stellar. It is an incredible recording of an incredible song.

By the way, “Papa Rudi” deserves more credit for his playing on these recordings. He really is the George Martin of MLT.

    1. No conflict, David. Just combine the two for a really fab ringtone!
      “HELP!…Evil German Whispering…HELP!”

Totally in agreement with the expertise of Papa Rudi’s bass playing and producing (not to mention his writing guidance on the original songs). Everything truly is a Team Wagner effort.

    2. Yes David I agree about Papa Rudi. He is a talented genius.
Also George Martin did make the Beatles music great. Where would they have been without him? In my opinion not as nearly successful.

  21. I loved sharing “one of my most loved albums of all time” with the two of you and feeling the sincere enthusiasm and excitement together. Music truly had a very special meaning and role in my life back then and, thanks to you both, that feeling is resurrected every time I listen to you perform and every time I get to see and listen to you share your love for music. I just can’t HELP feeling groovy when you two are around.

  22. What an especially enjoyable ‘What’s On The Table’ video. You were very insightful and your love for the Beatles music was displayed superbly throughout the Album review. We as MLT Club members are so lucky that you have covered so many Beatle songs so beautifully over the years.

I could have listened to you talk Beatles music for hours!

As always, “Thanks For The Memories”

  23. I agree with you, Mona, with a lot of the Beatles tributes. MLT is, by far, the best. The way that you make each song your own while maintaining the integrity of the original songs is unparalleled!

I think it is because you have utilized The Beatles influence in all your music. As we know, The Fab Four is your first musical love, and it has transcended in your work. However, you are growing and moving into other genres. Many of the new songs that you have released for the new album are examples of this evolution. Much respect!

The only other band, in my humble opinion, that justifies the Beatles music is an Italian group named The Vergas. They have some excellent covers. One of their members, Galeazzo Fruda, has created many “how to” videos regarding their harmonies. If you and our esteemed MLT club members have not listened to them, look them up!

    1. Hi Chris, I haven’t heard too much from The Vergas, but I’ve watched many of The Beatles Vocal Harmony videos about how to sing one or another Beatles songs. They’ve been a real eye-opener about just what went into making those harmonies. It’s amazing what he’s been able to pick out from their recordings. In fact, I was probably watching one of Galeazzo’s videos when MLT first showed up in my recommended list.

I’ve often wondered whether Mona and Lisa turn to Youtube videos like his or the many “how to play” Beatles videos on YT for getting the details right in their covers.

  24. Wasn’t John playing the Gibson J-200 in You have to hide you love away. You know the Epiphone 200 that you broke Mona!!! LOL!! Went to see Help down on 16th street in downtown Denver where its an outside mall now. I think I took my first date there. I remember her having a Blue dress on, white gloves, black shoes. Had to be proper. It was a great movie. But anyway one of my favorite albums to that point anyway, you ladies look great in purple and black. To hell with the album lets talk about fashion, LOL!!

    Stay Groovy

  25. I remember seeing the movie at my local movie theater, which unfortunately is now a Dunkin’ Donuts. Oh well. It was a true cultural event.

  26. Mona and Lisa thank you again for a great What’s on the Table!! And you picked a winner today. This album from the first track to the last track is fabulous. I Put this CD on when I am working in the yard or washing the cars and singing along. This has to be a top album for the Beatles at the time, and no one came close in my opinion. Also I mentioned before no one covers the Beatles like Mona and Lisa, I have XM radio and the Beatles channel highlights different people doing covers and my goodness some of them are terrible. You both capture the spirit of the song and never take that away. I think I read somewhere that John Lennon said Help was a true rocker and he is correct, and as a drummer? It is difficult to match Ringo’s drum playing on this track but I try my best to keep it going when the band I am in play this track. Mona and Lisa again thank you so much for this great Whats on the table. Can’t wait for next week’s video.
    God Bless you both

  27. Help is my favorite Beatles album and Movie! You must record I’ve Just Seen a Face – such a fun song! This whole album brings back such fun memories of my early childhood. Thank you!

  28. Hi Mona, hi Lisa, it´s always a pleasure for me to see how exited you are when you speak about the Beatles and their songs. I had the same feeling at that time for the Beatles music and still have. Their music brought me to guitar playing, and their songs still have a fascination to me for now 60 years. When I first heard them in “Harrod´s during a vacation to London with “Twist and shout” I thought what kind of music is that? I lived in Hamburg that time, but I never had heard about them (what a shame)! And now three generations later their music is still in! And hopefully will still last.
    Lots of love Frank

  29. I’ve always felt the B sides of the movie albums are always underrated as they contain fantastic songs. Of course some parts of the world got instrumental music from the films instead of the same tracks as on the UK version so that may be a reason. Help is a great album as it showed great progression from Beatles for Sale which despite claiming in the sleeve notes that it’s not a Christmas cash-in album always felt like one to me! The speed that they had to come up with new songs and record them in-between tours and films was just crazy, especially compared to today where artists take a long time between albums (even MLT 🙂 ). The movie used be on TV many times, but now I have the restored blu-ray version which has some fun extras (and confirms the MLT tale of the explanation mark in the booklet).  Great choice of album to cover at the Beatles were now getting better with each album.

  30. In the UK at that time there was very little radio air play given to pop music but I can remember there was quite some anticipation to Help being played for the first time. I think it would be the first time I was old enough to be aware of that sort of build up.
Incidentally, the lady actress in “Hide your love away” is Eleanor Bron. A bit of a 60’s icon and allegedly the inspiration for Eleanor in Eleanor Rigby I believe. She still acts occasionally in the long running radio serial The Archers.

  31. Even when I know it’s coming, I crack up whenever Mona shouts “Help!”

“Help” without the exclamation point could be an offer of help. With the exclamation point it’s a cry for help. So two completely different things.

  32. Hola again,
Speaking of Yesterday. The Beatles were on the Ed Sullivan Show three times, the first being in February in 1964. I remember during one of their appearances, Paul came out by himself with an acoustic guitar and sang Yesterday. It was beautiful.

Listen please do not get mad at me. I am not an attorney nor a “know-it-all”.
And I am not trying to contradict what the girls said about the title HELP!. I think they put the exclamation point there to emphasize the word and to be yelling it loud (I think the girls did mention something like that in the video). Actually I do not think I ever realized there was an exclamation point there lol.
But what I wanted to say was that here in the US Titles are not protected under Copyright Law, nor are songs, single books or other creative works.
Also movie titles typically do not qualify for trademark protection either.
Now this applies to the USA, I do not know about the UK or other countries?
Maybe Papa Rudi knows these answers better than me?

It’s funny, there is a 2021 TV Movie titled HELP, about a girl working in Liverpool.

One more thing, if I may, you all know that there are several songs recorded over the years that have the same song title, but are different songs. We were talking about the Beatles’ song I Need You. Does anyone remember the band called America? (I myself wasn’t a big fan lol) They had a huge hit with “A Horse With No Name” and there own song “I Need You”.
And remember the Beatles song “Because”? I think that the girls mentioned it and referred to the movie “Across the Universe”. I watched the film last night, for about the 20th time. One of my fav songs in it is their version of “It Won’t Be Long”.
Well, does anyone remember the Dave Clark Five (DC5)?
One of my favorite songs from them was a sweet ballad called “Because”.
Dave Clark the drummer, sang back-up and had a very unique drumming style.
Mike Smith was the lead singer and played keyboard.

Mona & Lisa, if I didn’t say this before – if you haven’t already listened to them, check them out when you have a chance.
They were from London. Their huge hit “Glad All Over” knocked “I Want to Hold Your Hand” off the #1 spot in the UK. Also they made a movie called “Catch Us If You Can” which was one of their song titles.

If anyone read all this that I wrote, thanks a lot. It’s just hard for me to stop talking about music.
Have a fantastic & groovy weekend
For those in the US – Happy Labor Day on Monday.
    Lots of Love,
    Bobby S.

    1. I would just like to clarify what I said above about Copyright Law – when I said songs are not covered I meant song titles.
Naturally you could be sued for plagiarizing a song’s lyrics or music.
Do you know that George Harrison was sued and had to pay over a million & a half US dollars? They said that the music in My Sweet Lord copied the Chiffons song He’s So Fine.

  33. These are always fun and I’m glad to see y’all do this album for “What’s on the Table”. And I agree “You’re Gonna Lose That Girl” is one of the best ever – particularly since it’s what got me listening to you. I was looking for different interpretations of the song while I was trying to rearrange it for myself and I ended up listening to your version and loving it. The resulted in me hanging out here for five (!) years now.

  34. If I ever became somebody, I would do a WOTT with “MonaLisa Twins Play Beatles and More Vol. 3” and I might even play “The Night Before” three or four times.

I quite like “Tell Me What You See,” but it’s all because of the harmony when J & P sing “Open up your eyes now” and “It is no surprise now…”

After listening to the MLT version of “You’re Going to Lose That Girl” the original sounds off, like the tape drags in the backing “Yes, yes you’re gonna lose that girl,” especially the first time out. I always loved that song, but now I love the MLT version more.

As for the movie and the album, I don’t remember either that well from my childhood, but I feel like I must’ve seen it in the theatre because my memories of it are in color and we most definitely did not have color TV in the 60s.

    Help!

  35. Greetings
Wonderful video. Seeing your smiling faces always makes me smile and brightens up my day. (There was a song by James Taylor called “You’re Smiling Face”)
I love many of the songs on that Beatles’ album. Although you know, when the albums were released in the US some had different songs on them and some albums had different titles.
When Please Please Me LP was released in the UK it was not released here in the US. And our first album here was Meet the Beatles, while in the UK it was called With the Beatles. Our 2nd album was called The Beatles Second Album. Okay I won’t list them all here lol.
However in around 1987, when they put out some albums on CDs they did give us With the Beatles and Beatles for Sale, among some others.
A couple of the songs you mentioned like It’s Only Love and I’m Looking Through You are on my Rubber Soul vinyl album. I purchased a Rubber Soul CD a few years ago and some songs were different. Anyway, Rubber Soul is my favorite albums and then probably the White Album. And It’s Only Love is one of my all-time favorites (you should hear me sing it hahaha). The first 3 songs I sang with my first band were It’s Only Love, Norwegian Wood & Money (That’s What I Want).

Well, here I go talking a lot once again. If you would bear with me I will write another comment cause I have something else to say.

    Take good care,
    Love and Peace,
    Bobby S.

  36. Hello Ladies,
This was one of the very few times I got to see or hear any Beatles Music Growing up. I actually got to see this Movie! What a mesmerizing and Fantastic Album. I was and still am captivated by this Album.
Thank you so much for bringing back those memories.
I loved seeing and Hearing your takes on these songs.
Thanks Ladies, and All the best
    Rick

  37. Help! Absolutely love this album , and love the movie. Haven’t watched in a long time, now I have to watch !
” Your going to lose that girl ” very underrated song.
Mona I used to not listen to Beatles covers either, Until I heard you and Lisa ‘s covers .
This was one of my favorite ,what’s on the table videos.
    Extremely enjoyable !

  38. I haven’t found the words that adequately express the happiness I feel watching you affectionately share listening to these amazing songs! I loved how easily the young MLTs harmonized the Help! “won’t you pleeease, please help me!” You are both spectacularly beautiful in this video, and you are still just as adorable as you were as teenagers. Amazing how the Beatles had 14 songs on each original album with such quality and diversity- plus the singles they released. I feel like MLT albums share that same excellence.
Our family watches the video at least once or twice a year – always a snow day favorite. We also use so many of the lines – my favorites are “It’s cold…it’s a cold place”, and “Fix It, Algernon!” But most fabulous part of the video is the sisterly affection you show for each other in your opinions and remembrances. Thanks so much for this wonderful time…!

  39. What a great album! Every song is great, could be a “Greatest Hits” album for any other artist, likely better than any having HELP! and Yesterday on it. The quality on it is mind blowing.
This was one of my teenage years albums that went ’round and ’round. I’ve Just Seen A Face and You’re Going to Lose That Girl are “underrated” in my book, if that’s possible.
Your cover of it is top notch and up there with The Beatles’ performance.
What a great WOTT!! Thank you!

  40.         This is the Beatles album I am most familiar with.  I was seven when it was released, and my older sister brought it home (she was ten, a Beatles fan but not a screamer). She played this over and over, and I was fascinated. I would later listen to Sgt Pepper or the White more, but whenever I hear one of these songs, I pick up the lyrics like I’d been listening every day. Later of course I was able to appreciate the genius in the arrangements, etc., but the visceral effect this album had on this seven-year-old was profound. And, yes, the bongos!

  41. I always enjoy the WATT sessions, but I this one was extra special. Listening to some of those songs brought back memories. Some of the songs I haven’t heard in a long time, including “I’ve Just Seen a Face“, which I’d love to hear you cover (but then you probably don’t need any HELP! picking a song to cover).

    Great job as always!

  42. Thoroughly enjoyed this episode of “WOTT” , learned some info I had no idea on re: Beatles , such as the Exclamation Mark, etc… I did see the movie back in my late teen or maybe it was in my 20s/30s…lol… I liked it . I really love your spin on ” You’re Gonna Lose That Girl ” and ” The Night Before “….Of your version of ” Yesterday “, certainly a top notch effort…. Wow ….How cool was that to see the lost but found video foirage of you both doing Help, eyc when younger, that was treat ….
A fun side note to share.. My buddies from my fave Canadian Band Glass Tiger, over the years have done some Beatles covers that I enjoy too and the lead singer, Alan Frew did on a solo album or maybe it was a GT compilation CD, (it’s been awhile) he did ” You’ve Got To Hide Your Love Away ” and did meet Sir Paul… Thankyou for doing this episode and choosing the HELP ! Album to review, etc… Made my Friday ????

    1. I love it when you mention Glass Tiger. They were one of the super Canadian performers of their era along with Lawrence Gowan (I’ve met him on a few occasions, “When It’s Time For Love” was our first dance at our wedding); Rush (sat next to Geddy Lee at a Blue Jays game once); Luba; Jann Arden; Honeymoon Suite; The Holly Cole Trio; and The Spoons.

An awesome time to be an American living on the Canadian border.

      1. Hi Christopher…Lol… Thankyou for your comment reply to me here…Yessir, my all time Fave Canadian band they are and have known personally since meeting them back in 1988-89 ish…Funny enough… I first saw them in concert in my city around 1986-87 during the Supreme, and they were opening for, Gowan … I met Gordon Deppe, a few yrs ago at a local independent book store downtown where was doing a book signing, it was great meeting him, and agreed…. The 80s was primetime for Canadian Music , although, I saw a DVD , which I borrowed from public library a few yrsback that was about 60s music scene in Canada, that was cool to watch, alot of stuff , in terms of facts, bands I knew songs I heard but never knew/seen who had sung them, etc. It was interesting . Glad I had borrowed it but off the top of my head , I can’t recall name of the DVD… ????????????????

  43. That Cavern Club performance of ‘You’re Going to Lose That Girl’ was my introduction to MLT. What a lightning bolt. I then spent the entire afternoon watching all the other MLT videos I could find. When the club first started up I asked other members to name their top five MLT videos. ‘Your Going to Lose That Girl’ topped my own list. There have been so many great performances since then….but it’s still in my top five.

  44. My favorite song from the Help album has always been The Night Before …so you can imagine how happy I was when I received Beatles and more Vol 3…LOVE IT…and one of my favorite MLT videos is your version of You’re Gonna Lose That Girl….the band I was in at age 15 wanted to play Help so as the lead guitar I needed “help” from a guy who was a few years older than me and played lead in a popular local band…he helped me out and our band had another song in our repertoire….oooohhh so many years ago !……My Help album is from Capitol Records and the album pictures are different starting with Orange lettering where yours was Blue….I took pictures and hopefully I can get them to appear here…I’m not good at this part….I need a 3-yr old to say “I show you Papa”….LOL ???? ….hhhmmm rats I’m not finding the camera icon to add pictures…aaaaagggghhhh ❤️????

    1. Hi yes Rick, many of the albums released in the USA were different than the ones in England or Germany. Some albums even had different titles and the songs varied.
And yes I also like The Night Before and also Harrison’s I Need You.

  45. One of my favourite albums. I was quite surprised Lisa that you glossed over Act Naturally very quickly as if it was not really worthy. In my humble opinion it’s one of the better early Ringo vocals. Each to their own as they say, and that is why the boys appeal to so many.

    1. I have the 45 rpm single of Yesterday and Act Naturally was the B Side. Yes, Ringo really wasn’t a singer (although he still tours with his All Star Band lol), but in the studio they can fix up the voices, yeah? On that song he sounded pretty good.

  46. Before I comment on WOTT I just wanted to say my Christmas shopping is almost done with the order you sent…I received it this past Monday and a lot of Christmas stocking will be filled….from the time I placed the order here in Dallas/Ft Worth August 13 it arrived from Liverpool UK in just 16 days..received package on Monday August 29…and WOW that’s service and all the CDs were signed……I said shopping “almost” done…..waiting for that NEW album…and I just know that you titled the new album LIFT OFF with Captain Janitor Joe and the MONALISA TWINS with Joe waving to the people with his arm out the window and you girls riding the rocket ????????

  47. I like these what’s on the table chats. You can tell they’re not rehearsed, mostly off the cuff, like most of your videos, which is good it shows your honest opinion. By the time Help came out Beatle albums were being released fast and people from eight to eighty knew every word, make that three to eighty. You’ve really found a classic here. You’re covers bring back so many great memories, so well done, capturing the spirit of these great songs. Mona said, “I really don’t like Beatles covers” Too funny. Then Lisa says, Eleanor Bron was a Transvestite.. actually she’s a famous British actress but don’t worry she’s eighty-four probably won’t come looking for you.. but hey.

  48. So many memories. I grew up in the 60’s and really loved all the music of that time. The Beatles were the best, though! And all your music strikes me the same way that those songs did way back then. You are the best Mona and Lisa! Thank you for sharing.

  49. Help! is one of those movies that stays with me. I can almost play it and the music in my head even now. I’ve said it before – as youngster’s you two were little dolls. Your just older now. I have two request: if you haven’t already done so – please do a Kinks what’s on the table, and more importantly when will the new album be available for pre-order? Please be.

    1. Hi Joe…the girls have already done a WOTT of the Kinks but hey I’ll say I’m good for another Kinks WOTT…can’t get enough Kinks ,!

  50. I remember watching Help! & A hard day’s night in the theaters when they first came out. I seem to remember reading somewhere a long time ago that the original title of the album Help! was “Eight arms to hold you”. Does anyone remember this? I loved the clips of Mona & Lisa doing Help! and Ticket to ride.

    1. Yes yes yes James. I was going to say the same things in my comments – the original title of the film was going to be Eight Arms to Hold You. I wanted to read the comments before I left my own lol.
When I saw your name I was going to ask you if you were related to the guitarist Neal in Journey. But then I realized that he spells his name differently – Neal Schon – the only constant original member.

      1. Thank you Robert for confirming that my memory is not totally bad…lol
        No relation to Neal Schon.

  51. Help! Those are VERY nice suits, girls. They look great on you and I remember very well when that MLT video came out World Without Love because Lisa responded to my comment in about 5 seconds. LOL. Let me say that is a song that I really liked the sound and lyrics of for many, many years. It’s mysterious-sounding. I was so delighted that you did a cover of that song.

There’s just an overall sound to the Help! album that seems timeless. Thank you for this WOTT video.

The Night Before is a 2nd favorite, but You’re Going to Lose That Girl was always the best tune on that album, so again, I was delighted to hear you play that in the Cavern Club, and it was very well done and recorded there. These kinds of things are a big part of why I’m a MLT fan to this day. There’s a chemistry about you that’s unique and likeable. I am proud of The Mona Lisa Twins.

  52. I actually preferred Help! over A Hard Day’s Night. (Not that I didn’t love HDN I just liked Help! better) It had more of a story line and the boys did a nice job with it. Oh I would love to see a cover of I’ve Just Seen a Face! It’s one of my favorites! I also want to comment on the absolute look of bliss on the twins faces while listening to the songs. I can see why they have gone down the path they have chosen. Love them so much!

  53. My introduction to the Beatles was through watching the films A Hard Day’s Night and Help!, so those soundtracks are foundational to my fandom.

It would be awesome if sometime Mona and Lisa recorded reaction videos to their watching those two films. We’d all get a big kick out of seeing what moments really resonate with them.

  54. You can never go wrong with a Beatles album! But I’m bias, cuz I grew up in that era, and I’m thankful that I was alive to watch the whole Beatles story unfold before our eyes. And you and your family are living proof of the timelessness of their music. Thank you for another great WOTT! I always learn something new, like the exclamation mark on Help! I’ve Just Seen A Face is one of my favorite Beatles songs, however in America, it was put on the Rubber Soul album. Help! Was released as a Soundtrack Album over here with incidental music added instead of straight Beatle songs. Butcher cover anyone?!? Anyway, thank you again!

  55. Another great WOTT!

HELP! Your version when you were younger is great. Most enjoyable!

Really enjoyed seeing your Ticket to Ride snippet. You certainly had a great deal of fun doing it!

Yes, a version of I’ve Just Seen a Face would be awesome. I could see Mona doing the lead vocals on this tune!

Lisa: “It’s food for the soul”. A perfect description for The Night Before!

Your excitement when you do Beatles WOTT albums always is evident. Many thanks Mona and Lisa!

  56. Wow Beatles music just get’s inside you and captivates like none other. I love seeing your love for their music and the effect it has on you, the passion it brings out. Those early video clips you did for Help and Ticket to Ride is awesome, love it! Would love to see the full versions if they are available or any of your other ones you did back then. Your Penny Lane audio you posted here is also fabulous. The first time I heard your version of Help played live on the Billy Butler show just floored me. Your harmonies just are wonderful. Help really stands out for me as I can feel the passion, and according to John it is his real life expression, so that much more special because it feels so real. Love the counterpoint effect in the harmonies too. I would love to get a vinyl of Help, will add it to my list. Got Rubber Soul and Sargent Peppers on vinyl, and my target is to get Revolver, and now Help on vinyl. Thanks so much for another absolutely wonderful WOTT.????

  57. Looking sharp, Ladies ????!
My memory of the film is being 6 years old and my parents making my teenage sister and brother take me with them to see the movie at a Saturday matinee. Neither wanted me to come along and have to keep an eye on me.
I think some of the songs represent the best of the Beatles, The Night Before, my favorite Harrison song I Need You, and You Got to Hide Your Love Away. The latter two I hope you cover at some point. Another favorite that you did cover perfectly is You’re Gonna Lose That Girl, thank you for doing that.
As always, loved the clips of Young MonaLisa doing Help and Ticket to Ride, if you have more please show it.
Finally, I loved how Mona kept saying Help! And Lisa putting her head on Mona’s shoulder. Beautiful!

  58. I think this was the first Beatles album I listen to completly (age 14). I just bought my new/first cassette deck and I wanted to record music. The boy friend of my sister had all Beatles albums, and Help was the only song I knew at the time so I asked him to bring the album and the rest is history.
