Zwerndorf “Beachparty”, Live Gig – Photos

Today we’re sharing some photos of our gig at the “Beach Party” in Zwerndorf (a village in Austria) back in September 2012.

There was certainly a party … but where was the beach?

As it is likely to be the case in Austria, things turned out a lot colder and wetter than desired. The nice outdoor stage they built for the festival had to have it’s inauguration another time as they moved the mini festival inside the “3er Wirtshaus” that weekend.

The venue is a curious, fascinating little place. This little tucked-away venue between two fishing lakes had become somewhat of an “insider tip” for music lovers in the area. It is very much hidden in the middle of nowhereĀ  near the Slovakian-Austrian border, yet hosts some of the biggest names in (especially) Jazz on a regular basis. We’ve seen legends like Brian Auger or Joe Zawinul there over the years.

There are never more than a handful of dishes on the menu, all cooked and served by the owner “Pepi” himself.

A great little place that we enjoyed playing at together with Michael Mozeth on bass and Fabian Natter on drums.

Of course, the “3er Wirtshaus” is currently closed down like most other venues and restaurants. We will try our best to support our own local businesses again as soon as the times allow it and can only hope that they will pull through and survive this “stress test”. It would be a shame to see unique, authentic places like that disappear forever.

Stay groovy, stay safe, stay curious,
Mona & Lisa

  1. Cool pictures, but too bad the out door venue didn’t work out. Looked really nice. Hidden gems are the best. I hope they survive this Corona virus mess, too. Lots of small businesses are going to struggle to make it. ☹

  2. What an interesting little place!
It reminds me of an open Air Bar B Q place near me. Same type of setup, minus the Stage and Loft.
Sort of a Rustic setting, minus the Beach, of Course.
I do hope the Mom and Pop places such as this are able to bounce back.
Its the backbones of many towns and businesses.
Stay safe, well, groovy, and all the best
    Rick

  3. Love every picture of you girls playing. Your joy and passion for playing are inspirational. I especially love the pics with Mona and her Rickenbacker and Lisa and her Gretsch. Just beautiful!
    Many thanks for these!

  4. Thanks for including a link to a satellite view; the geographic context is much appreciated. Looks like it’s only about a kilometer from Slovakia.

  5. To be honest I like checking out the gear in these pics just as much as seeing the twins.

Is that a Fender Deluxe Reverb I spotted?. I see the usual AC30s so not sure what the Fender was being used for. A backup maybe?.

I have one of the new Tone Master Deluxe Reverb amps and it is fantastic. And really light :). I also have the Tonemaster Twin Reverb which is fantastic too. I might have a problem!!!!

  6. Anytime there is a Beach Party, I’m in! šŸ™‚
Love that first photo with the cute Beach Party sign in the middle of a farming field. Somehow it’s so fitting and perfect! The venue with the wooden stage, fenced bar area and wooden stove look so cozy for the perfect party! The inside stage with the slanting ceiling looks like a country village version of the Cavern Club. It looked like Mona did the guitar sanding down thing like John Lennon and George Harrison did to their guitars, or was it just heavy well-loved use? I notice the John Lennon inscription on the guitar. Lots of great close up shots of you both performing on stage. Those facial expressions captured reveal your passion as you play. Enjoyed these much, thanks for sharing! šŸ™‚

  7. This is the perfect example of Groovy Hidden Gems that I love from you whenever you share…. And I just love the ambience, rustic yet cozy cubby hole of a place, and the wagon trailer with ad on it. This wee spot has character vibrancy about it… Good thing sound guy isn’t claustrophobic and likes heights from where he is at…. Lol….It’s a Quirky yet Quaint location and I’m sure the acoustics ricchocheted quite nicely…. A shame Mother Nature had other plans that day but you all made sunshine come out inside…
Thankyou for revealing this Groovy Wee Photo Post Gem of a Kodak Keeper…. You can certainly sense the magic of the music and ambience/atmosphere being thete??
